In short, I idle, but I also have a rather temperamental internet conenction, which means I can often leave for work in the morning and find I've been disconnected when I get back in the evening, and it's very possible it timed out after just an hour after setting it up.
Maybe it's not possible, but I swear I've seen something similar somewhere, but is there a script I can add to my autoexec which will automatically reconnect to a server I'm in every 20 minutes say and place me in spec? (obviously which i can cut and paste in and out when i have time to play) Yeah, it's a longshot, but It'd be nice to be able to leave my PC on and actually know I'll keep trying to connect, even if I time out.
Please don't start the idling vs not-idling thing, I really don't care if you think it's right or wrong.
Peace.
I would like something like this too. I used to use SourceTools but i would enjoy just this kind of a script more.
SourceTools should be okay for the OP
I would also like something like this.
I've had success with SourceTools, except for this bug I'm experiencing where the SRCTools and TF2 will just disappear.

Source Tools had huge updates since March 12th. You should try it again. You dont even need to configure anything anymore before idling, unless you want to tweak certain settings [tons of settings]
As for exact timing script
fps_max 30
alias autorecon "wait 99310;retry;autorecon";autorecon
You can change the "99310" to any value you want.
1 minute = wait 4965.517
Notes
- Don't use decimals, just round up, so 30 minutes = 148965.51 = wait 148966
- You need to use fps_max 30 and TF2 minimized [or run in textmode] to get the timing down rock solid. Wait delay is based on the FPS
- "retry" will send you back on top of the "kick when reserved slot needed"

Maybe someone will close SourceTools and TF2 while you're gone?
Source Tools will restart TF2 is it crashed.
The only way Source Tools and TF2 can close automatically, is if you exited TF2. Exiting TF2 makes a specific console message appear, which then tells Source Tools to not restart TF2 and close itself.
You could also try launching SourceTools from cmd.exe. That will make Source Tools stay open if it crashed. You'll see the error message and then you can report it to me [screenshot appreciated, along with the content of the file \core\status\console.log]
So i have just started srctools. I joined a server, will it reconect automatically when i get disconnect?

Yes, As long as you launched from ez-spectate.bat which should have connected you to a server automatically.
Iit will move on to the next server written in userfiles\serverlist\1-servers.txt
edit that file to your liking with as many servers and any server as you want...
Avoid using servers that disable "wait", so you're looking to avoid servers with sv_allow_wait_command 0
Wait disabled servers will break the autoreconnect function, BUT, source tools will eventually kick in thinking that TF2 crashed [if you got disconnected] because nothing appeared in the console for 4 minutes. It will restart TF2 and connect you to the next server.
Source tools has been a godsend to me. Now I can idle for more than 15 minutes at a time and I am actually getting drops. You should really consider using that, Overseer.

Many thanks. works perfect.

agree
Source tools has worked fantastic for me so far.
Isn't Source tools a third-party program?
Isn't Source tools a third-party program?
yes i would also like to know more about this.
Isn't Source tools a third-party program?
It's not really a "program" per say. It's a scripted list of commands that are run by cmd.exe
CMD.exe is the windows command prompt. 100% legitimate and not 3rd party [unless Valve considers windows to be a 3rd party program]
I wrote a small post that describes how to use Source Tools and at the bottom I explain why it's safe.
There's a tutorial someone made at our idling server forums:

Idling Forums eh?
Do people post on it or just log on and wait?

Nah, it's pretty much just for people from our idling server to hang out and chat. (For some reason more people on our server mess around then idle.)
So what is better textmode with lower cpu and ram usage or source tools?

I would use textmode, but I'm still scared of holocaust.

I doubt Hitler or Nazi germany will come after you.
I always get dropped from servers, and it bugs the fuck out of me, this is something I could definitely use.
Using it, its nice since my router disconnects sometimes from the internet but Source tools reconnects until my internet is back.
Nice tools you made BeefMcGraw
