DISCLAIMER: THEORIZING DETECTED
Alright, after reading An Analysis of the Virus in the L4D section, I realized a few things about genetics that could as well be applied to the effects of Australium. Here's how I see it.
Now, when we first heard of this mysterious metal, it was revealed in the comic "Loose Canon," as an explanation to why all the Australians are the smartest race on the planet; applying Australium, the body becomes more muscular, and the brain develops. As the Engineer update progressed, we viewed Radigan Cohagher becoming more and more buff and muscled, but also creating more hi-tech inventions.
However, there are a few questions that have been arising--
1. Why does this chemical reaction happen?
2. Why do the Australians, though becoming more technological, wrestle animals and decide their king with a boxing match with a kangaroo?
3. Why is the sniper not muscled or more technological than his brethren?
These questions are hard to answer, but I have created a few theories to answer them.
The first question can't be answered by normal means; maybe it's radioactive, I have no idea; we'll probably find more information later.
The second, is one I have developed a little. You see, I believe that Australium drains your common sense.. This explains quite a few things, as to why Radigan cut his own arm off for his gunslinger.
The third is, well, more theoretical and makes a lot of assumptions. The theory basically states that the sniper is half-Australian, half British. While I don't think it matters what side it is, I like to think of it as the father's side. This can go two ways. If Australium is not genetic, it might be that because her marriage was with a non-Australian, the Sniper's mother (or father, if you believe that), was denied Australium privileges. Or, if Australium is genetic, we can say that Australium does not function unless there are two Australium stained chromosomes. In both theories, the sniper never got to being "Australified," and he was ridiculed at school. This caused him to be a loner, and becoming a sniper(Yes, I added an origin story as well.).
I think this is a good deconstruction of Australium, don't ya think? Comments/Feedback?
This again?
i think youre over thinking a video game
I think wearing australium gold colored hats should have a chance of causing your character to spout a moustache

Hey, I'm a conspiracy theorist.

Oh, I'm sorry. Where has this happened before?

Because he travelled a lot to kill people and all. He didn't spend much time in Australia.
Oh god you're taking thing waay too seriously.

Like I said, conspiracy theorists like to make sense of things. I am a conspiracy theorist. ON CRACK.
You're thinking too much into a game that isn't even supposed to be serious

GOD DAMN IT. MST3K, YOU WIN AGAIN.
Yeah, I do believe in that for most things. But I just wanted to get this theory out of my mind.

That's okay, it's the whole purpose for Wild Mass Guessing pages.
My little theory of this is that Australium is probably an extremely-rare "isotope" of gold that has two heavy exotic particles at it's heart, represented by kangaroos. These two "Kangarons" each have an exotic energy charge, similar to the positive and negative of normal matter, but on a slightly-different axis. For the sake of it's Australianism, let's call the two charges "Fourex" and "Fosters".
The Fourex and Fosters Kangarons are repulsed by each other's opposing charges, yet the electron shells surrounding them somehow force them back together, since the two charges are somehow affaliated with Positive and Negative, with negative being both attractive and repulsive towards Fourex and Fosters, with one nanosecond drawing them in, and another nanosecond pushing them away. The constant cycle of repulsion and being forced back together causes shockwaves on the quantum level, releasing strange forms of radiation, which has a surprisingly beneficial effect on DNA, stimulating telomeres to lengthen and positive genes to be switched on.
The end result is a metal not unlike gold, yet is highly adaptive when it comes into contact with normal matter like the standard nucleon (the amalgamation of protons and neutrons to form the nucleus of our standard atoms). It also retains the ductility and conductivity of it's baryonic matter counterpart element.
This is all A-level pseudoscience, so it wouldn't really be too easy to understand it.
