Im on DX8 and whenever someone tells me that they have their hat painted, its still default color. Someone else has also told me that they cant see it on DX8 either.
Is this true for anyone else?
Upgrade, anyone still using DX8 needs to be shot.
DX9 too for that matter.
Valve should purge DX8.

Those are great answers, thanks, sorry that I cant upgrade.
If Valve purges DX8 from TF2 they can forget about me buying any of their games.
cause im a butthurt retard 12 year old who cant afford to buy a new gpu worth £50
You need to be on DX9 to see painted hats.

Theres been nothing else in the game that has required DX9 though, so I assumed it was a bug. They tend to overlook DX8 a lot.
It's 2010, if you can't afford a Dx9 or 10 card, you shouldn't be a PC gamer.
Well I had a DX9 card but the PC Shop I took it to stole it.

It's 2010, if you can't afford a Dx9 or 10 card, you're probably not living off your mother's credit card or are feeling the effects of the recession.

Oh jesus christ you cant just buy a new card and expect it to magically upgrade the rest of your computer, dont say that.
I have a relatively new computer except I havent yet been able to buy a card. Chill bro, I was just asking if anyone else had this problem.
Dx8.1 , because I want a playable framerate.
I have dx8 at least i deal with it even if the game runs with 10 fps and old school graphics.

While only 5.1% use DX8 hardware, a lot of people use DX8 because TF2 is horribly unoptimized. I've heard people with DX11 hardware running DX8 mode because otherwise they get 15FPS average.

I'm sure it makes a huge difference to you how advanced his computer is.

Or, you know? Got a summer job to pay for luxuries instead of your parents doing so? I made just over £2k in about 8 weeks of work (there was a cock up where I was over paid, but they didn't notice or care). I spent a measly £700 of that on a PC that can max Crysis at 1920x1080 and still be playable. The rest? Driving lessons and whatever the fuck I can afford after-wards. The recession is being fearmongered, and the lack of spending is making it worse.
Only 14 year olds would be complaining about their PC not being terrible (or people with actual bills to pay, but this is FP, there aren't many of those around). And those kids really should stop playing games like TF2 anyway, they tend to piss everyone off.

Top 5% represent.

They must be using some severely shit GPU to be getting 15 FPS. Any mid range DX11 card is more than capable of running TF2 at max with way over 60 FPS on almost any resolution.

Ok ok, that's when you buy a $50 'DirectX 11 Ready' GPU like a 5650 or something dumb like that.

It's 2010, if you can't afford a DX9 or 10 card you probably dropped out of high school and are paid the minimum wage.
Unless you're out of work it's not that hard to accumulate a hundred bucks or so.
brb switching to dx8

I bet you EVERYONE who runs TF2 in DX8 has DX9+ capable hardware.
So the survey isn't representative as to how many people use DX8 for TF2.
DX9 too for that matter.
Source doesn't support DX10 or DX11.

It's called having a hobby outside of games.

Doubt it bro. That's from the Steam hardware Survey. it reports what the hardware can handle, not what the user is running.
It's for all Steam users, not TF2 players.
Christ.
I use DirectX 8 since graphics don't matter to me, and I don't notice the difference. And the fuck, it's a hat simulator. It's more like a Mmorpg now than a fps.
I use DX8 right now because i have trouble with my newer graphics card.
VALVe should give it a few years and upgrade everything when EP3 gets released.
That way i can play all their games maxed and then leave my older build bite the dust.

Mine can run DX9 with medium settings, but I get about 5 FPS in combat. I would rather be in DX8 with an FPS config and get about 15-20 FPS in a very active combat, 40-60 outside of it.
