Sometimes while playing Scout, I really wish I could see the health of enemy players. It would help a lot with the decision to either fight or retreat, and it sounds like something a scout would be able to do. I don't think it would particularly unbalance the game if it were implemented as a latent effect of the scout, since the kill would still require the player to show some skill, but I wouldn't mind even giving up some damage or running speed as drawbacks to get a weapon/item with this ability attached.
What do you guys think?
That would be a useful thing to have for all classes, but it's sort of cheating.
Scout would be credit to team, tough i don't think it will need a bad effect if you could equip on the secondary slot cause scout would lose his "long" range weapon/bonk.
@Corky Uuuuuum i don't think it's "cheating",how the heck being able to see enemy hp can be game breaking?

The pistol's a little too invaluable to consider trading it for the ability. I was thinking maybe something that would go in the misc. slot or something.

Well there is that "traits" thread might be a great ideia to post there.
I dunno. The spy has the ability due to his ability types:
He uses stealth, has the lowest hp bracket, and his weapons are relatively powerful up close.
It makes sense that the spy would be able to get this knowledge.
The scout... not so much. His abilities:
Speed, massive damage in point blank range, dodging capabilities.
You don't need to know the hp of your opponents as much as a spy would (in most cases). You should be focusing on getting in, planting that gun into someone's kidney and firing off a round or two, and getting the fuck out.
Spies need it because we need to be in the enemy's base to operate to our fullest. Most people think that once a spy strikes he goes to hide, but a lot of advanced spies use the movements of their enemies to create new openings. Plans change off of who has lower hp. I spend a portion of my time picking off weakened opponents that leave the battlefield. As rage-inducing as it is, it's part of the job.

Spies still only get a general idea of how much health the enemy have. 103 hp pyro, anyone?
The pistol's a little too invaluable to consider trading it for the ability. I was thinking maybe something that would go in the misc. slot or something.
That's the thing - this ability would be extremely invaluable, and you would need to trade it for something that you just can't give up. Scattergun wouldn't make sense, and you can't really replace a melee weapon with something you can't kill with (what happens when you run out of ammo?). Having it on Misc. or as a Trait could be extremely overpowered and give players with that Misc. item or Trait a huge advantage over players that don't have it.
Replacing the pistol all in all would be a good idea - trade in your long-range fighting capabilities for knowing your enemy's health. Since you're the fastest class, once you know their health, you've got to get in and do the damage. That should be relatively easy considering your speed and double jump. But if they notice you, you're screwed.
1) Download and install this
2) When in battle, focus only on your crosshair and the white text
3) Add up the white text in your head real quick-like
There you have it, you now know how much damage you've dealt and how much the enemy has left. If I'm fighting an engineer and I get a meatshot in worth a good 100 or so, then I know that I could easily bat him to death. Now there's no need for Valve to give this class a scouter.
I'd trade the pistol for this.
It was a pretty well liked unlock idea before the scout update came out. But then we got bonk and the sandman :/
just turn on damage numbers and keep track of how much damage you've done
There's a difference between "how much damage have I done to this guy" and "I spot 2 enemy soldiers, which one is the weakest so I can get rid of him first?".
I kinda like this idea, Bathacker, would you be willing to cooperate with me on a submission? I'll make the model and texture.
An unlock weapon would work.
Like some kind of scouter?
Well something that would be easily visible (with maybe an antenna sticking out somewhere) without clipping with any hats.
Stupid idea, it's gonna cause a lot of rage on 1hp-ers camping medkits.
Hell, I'd just go around hiding in the shadows 1-shotting everybody with my pistol.
Well it's a situational help. It won't do a thing if all the enemies have a lot of health except take away your pistol, and scout isn't exactly good at stealth.
Shitty Paint sketch of a possible unlock that when it hits the enemy you can see all their info like their health and current weapon (when moused over them)
Not a BC2 rip off.

lolol why would spy need that? All he has to do is disguise and he can find this info out

I don't know really, there is a slash there for a reason.

There were once legends of a mythical gun used by spies, it was called, the STANDARD REVOLVER.
Legends tell of mighty spies using the faster firing speed of this weapon to decimate injured foes. But the I know something the legends do not foretell. I know that a SINGLE crit from this ancient weapon of spies does 120 damage. YES! 120 damage. But alas, nobody uses this weapon anymore except the classiest and most ancient of spies.

Or people who accidentally crafted their ONLY ambassador.
:emo:
Knowing your enemy's HP would completely change the way scout is played. Sometimes, you go back, even though that poor helpless medic is a 1 hp but you don't know. Shit happens. That would really be a bad idea.
Is adding a new way to play the scout bad though? Bonk also changed it, as did pretty much ALL of the unlockable weapons for each class.

The unlocks were originally there to give the class a slightly modified new way of playing the class. So I guess all the unlocks were bad ideas?

But this isn't changing the class' playstyle. It's adding features from another class, which is a thing to avoid.
It would be like giving the pyro a melee weapon that instakills with a hit to the back. It's giving the abilities of one of the classes to a class that doesn't even need it.

Well the pyro already has a primary weapon that is an instakill from the back.
real scouts can tell when someone have low hp anyway

Like how only the sniper has a weapon that does more damage on headsho- oh wait.
Surely, mixing class traits isn't always a good thing, but it would be a very useful survival skill for a scout, certainly something to consider trading your pistol in for.

Just like how real heavies always have a medic with them so they don't need a sandvich.

like one of these
