Hey guys its been a really long time since ive been in this section but i decided that i would throw this out there for consideration. So i had stopped playing TF2 for whatever reason back in February of this year. I dont really remember why i stopped, but i think it was a combination of new games coming out and minecraft. So recently ive decided to get back into TF2. I had heard about some really cool updates and what not so i was excited to get back into the swing of TF2. But unfortunately it seems that TF2 has sort of drifted from the really fun simplicity of the game. I had stopped playing about a month after crafting was introduced. Back then i thought that is was an awesome idea and really made the game more interesting. But now as i come back to the game 8 months later. I am greeted bye a mess of crazy amounts of new updates. At first i was very happy to see it all. But then as i saw more and more i noticed the game had totally lost its simplicity of just classes and guns. Now it seems that there is a near-overwhelming amount of stuff in the game. Things like the store really irked me. Buying? Buying hats with REAL money absolutely drove me nuts. What was once a very coveted thing to have a hat was now just something that you could buy and not think twice. This and among other things have really turned TF2 into a big cluster of things that are tearing away at the TF2's true simplistic fun. I will always love TF2 and i will still play it. But it just seems that VALVe is pouring to much into TF2. Personally i would have loved to keep the game the way it was back in February, But keeping essential updates like the engineer update ( Which i think is awesome btw ). Thats all i really have to say. All in all what im trying to say is that i really wished that TF2 would have stayed more towards the simplistic fun side. Rather that the craziness ,when it comes to items and such, its is today.
The bastardization and death of Team Fortress 2.
The bastardization and death of Team Fortress 2.
I wouldnt necessarily call it the death, just the over-complication.
I agree with you on the items. It may just be me, but I've had a much harder time judging my enemies since the polycount pack was released.
I feel the updates are a good addition, but they change TF2 into a different game. Gone is it's pick up and play simplicity.
I'd wish they'd stop adding new weapons and hats for a while.
I feel the updates are a good addition, but they change TF2 into a different game. Gone is it's pick up and play simplicity.
THIS. This is exactly how i feel, the game has lost its true feeling in my eyes. Its actually really saddening.
I'd like Valve to add something to the game that doesn't force me to play the game for super long periods of time or purchase something.
I wish Left 4 Dead has as much content as TF2 :saddowns:
I just got back from my holiday today, what the hell is going on.
The rise and and fall of tf2.
you're telling me this, you should of seen how confused i was when i played this game yesterday after not playing since like 2008, its crazy. this is the only game where i can truly say that this game is better without new content. funny thing is, theres always a bunch of faggots who complain about new content in games ruining them and shit, this is the one and only case where i am one of those people i guess.
Same. I always felt that this game would be timeless. All the updates up to the engineer didn't change that, it still had heart. But now microtransactions? Even if they aren't required, it cheapens every single item and weapon update they've made. It cheapens the whole game. Somehow it doesn't feel timeless anymore.
The game hasn't become more advanced- you don't have to use the crafting features or anything else. All that changes is your opponents and that is what matters the most. Basically, let the retards "buy" their items, but the only real factor is the battle.
While the game was fun back before the updates, I think it still retains the general fun and environment of its former self. I'd compare Tf2 to an good movie. When it first came out everyone loved it, it was an instant classic. I'd compare new Tf2 now to a remake of that movie. Some people prefer it over the old, while some still retain their love for the latter. No matter how you look at it, it is still the same movie, just from a different perspective. While there are some things I'm not too happy with, I'm overall happy with the result of these updates. I had just as much fun playing Tf2 today as much as a few months ago, or even when I first got it. I fully support the evolution if the game, and hope to see VALVe keep updating Tf2.
Most of the new weapons are overpowered, the classes arent balanced anymore.
Most of the new weapons are overpowered, the classes arent balanced anymore.
Oh god what? Are you serious?
Most of the new weapons are overpowered, the classes arent balanced anymore.
I'm sure valve knew the weapons would be a bit off when they released the update. I highly doubt all the weapons are going to stay the way they are now. As for the OP, I somewhat agree. However as long as the classes maintain their roles and balance, I don't really see a problem. Today TF2 may look a bit more complicated than it did on release, but at the core it's still the same thing. All the new items are just spin offs of the originals with different stats/benefits and downsides. The only thing I disliked about this update was the sale of hats. They've gone from "holy shit that guy has X hat" to "meh, dumbass probably bought it" or "I could just buy it anyway"; then again they are pretty expensive.
Oh god what? Are you serious?
Black Box Milk Powerjack
Black Box Milk Powerjack
I agree with Powerjack. Me and my friend were melee fighting and I beat him nearly every time even when he was a heavy. Black Box is exactly the same as rocketlauncher, milk hasn't saved me once.
Scouts hitting each other with FISHES! I thought you would only see that in Bioshock
I agree with Powerjack. Me and my friend were melee fighting and I beat him nearly every time even when he was a heavy. Black Box is exactly the same as rocketlauncher, milk hasn't saved me once.
Pyro was one of the best melee classes if you used the regular fireaxe already, a good portion of speed, health and damage.
While I agree that doesnt mean Im going to stop playing. To me its as fun now as it ever was.
I look around at the old maps and I remember what TF2 used to be. It was very different back in the day.
It really saddens me to realize that this game has lost its TF2 feel for me.
Powerjack is a straight upgrade on nocrit servers (which are like two fifths of all servers these days).
Me too, tf2 lost its orginial taste, it was better until the heavy patch, after it, the next update messed all up
There oughtta be "classic" mode. AND IT BETTER NOT BE A PURCHASABLE MINI-GAME
I blame the majority of the community. Valve only listened to their complaints about hats "being to hard to find BAWWW" So Valve made it easier to get items. The bawwers are happy; they actually buy it. But we're left with what? The bitter taste of how this game has changed. It doesn't mean anything to be a Wealthy Englishman or a Poor Irish anymore.
The bastardization and death of Team Fortress 2.
I'll give you the bastardization. But the Death? That's a bit strong to say ain't it?
