Apparently the earlier you have an account the longer you have to wait for hats - Games

Yeah, I just read a comment on the steam powered forums (lolwut) and this one dude said something about valve saying that if you had an account created earlier, more experienced players wouldn't mind waiting. So you're more likely to get a hat if you make an account at around say from the hats releases till now. So basically... I signed up in 2003, I don't have a hat yet (I doubt it's going to come here soon argh). Some guy signs up a day ago, starts TF2 for the first time, this guy suddenly has a hat in the first 10 hours. I kinda get where they're coming from. But really? I have to wait over 5 months for no hats and 500 items of dupelicates? Kinda unfair, Valve. So yeah, signing up earlier means you wait longer. Ffffuuuu- I hope this cleared up some annoyances about the hats and why we don't have them as earlier as some new members to steam.

I'm an '07 and I got 3 hats. This is definitely something from a steamforums' user who's asshurt he doesn't have a hat yet.

Made mine on the Steam launch day, about 94 hours of idling in the past two weeks not to mention the time before and still no hats.

About 3 in fact, because he was using an account he just made a few weeks ago, and his 04 account had no hats and his 09 account had already found 4, when the 09 account was idling less time than the 04 account.

04 Account, only have the Miner's light. I know an 07 who has two hats. I still think it's mostly chance.

Signed up on 2005, and I got a hat. That's stupid really, don't listen to trolls. It's a matter of statistic, most account are recent, since '05 and less that plays a lot tf2 are rare, '05 and less that got a hat are even more rare.
