What i think about the steam account disablements due to scammers

You know there are idiots playing tf2. Now how would you react to you getting your account disabled OVER A DUMBASS WHO TRADED HIS SHIT AWAY AND CALLED YOU A SCAMMER. Once that happens... You are fucked. No your items wont go. No you wont loose anything... BUT YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT. Don't you just hate when little baby's trade their crate for a FaN and then claim you are a scammer. EVEN THOUGH THEY PRESSED YES THEY STILL WILL CALL YOU A SCAMMER AND GET YOUR ACCOUNT DISABLED. I hate it cause ITS A VIRTUAL ITEM. NO HACKING INVOLVED. lets say you bought 100 bucks full of games. WELL THERE GOES YOUR FUCKING MONEY. DOWN VALVES THROAT. NO MONEY BACK YOU ARE SCREWED. Valve has lost all my fucking respect. And now Valve is losing more of its respect. Im sorry if this may be in the wrong section but i hate how that happens.
[ProTip] don't scam people and you won't lose your account.
godbless.
They won't ban for bad trades... Only REAL scammers.
Close the door behind you, thanks.
There have been less than 10 bannings and all of them carefully investigated.
Do they actually disable accounts? I thought they were bluffing to scare scammers.
It won't really go that easily. Not any idiot can just go and call anyone a scammer, and instantly get their account disabled.
I like this zero-tolerance policy. Anyone offering 'free painting', and thereby stealing a hat, is knowing perfectly well what they are doing, and thus, to me, they loose all rights to bitch and moan, and get their account disabled.
I can see why there's so much controversy about the issue though. It's like the VAC system. Instant-permaban from the game on hacking. For such a heavy-penalty system to work, it must be flawless. VAC has almost never let us down, and where it did, things were fixed. I'm sure Valve can continue doing this with this account-disablement system for TF2 item scamming they have now.

They do. But the valve fans just say HEY ITS THEIR FAULT LOL. Well why not disable trading and clear their backpack. Now someone just lost alot of money over some idiot who traded a crate for a level 1 item.
My thought on it is that it's a much greater punishment for that of actually, y'know, HACKING.
I love how everyone is going "Lol dont scam"
Someone on this very forum has gotten all of his items removed and his account disabled because he made a few trades that were in his favor, no scamming involved.
Someone is hacking? Ban them from the Source Engine. SOMEONE STOLE A FAKE HAT IN A GAME??? DISABLE THERE STEAM ACCOUNT WITH OVER 100 GAMES IN IT.
Thats pretty retarded.

"FREE HAT PAINTING!!!" = Scamming

Informative.
To be honest disabling somebody's entire account because of taking advantage of other people's stupidity is way too harsh.

People who got scammed lost worthless pixels but people who got their accounts disabled lost potentially hundreds or thousands of dollars.

This.
I think taking away all of the person's items is a good enough punishment.
On one server, I got a hour of no clip if I traded the admin a hat.
After a couple minutes hes like.
"Uh dude, thanks for the hat but I'm afraid some asshole will get my 500+ pound steam account disabled."
Parnoia
I read above that they're being very careful and decisive about these bannings, which is reassuring. I got banned once from an MMO I used to play because a guy gave me some stuff for cheap then reported me for scamming. I mean, all the admins would have had to do is spend five seconds looking at the chat log, but noooooo.
Nothing we can do about it, it's best not to dwell upon it.
to be honest i think valve is just trying to send a message to the future scammers.
if they just deleted your items and gave you a slap on the wrist it wouldn't really scare you from further scamming.
fucking you out of a shitload of games you paid for, however... that carries a lot of weight. no way i'll ever consider scamming if my account is on the line. not worth risking my games for some shitty hats.
I definitely understand the concern, but so far Valve has only done this to people who did definite scamming to many, many people (see the email in the other thread). Unless you're such a pro trader that EVERY trade you make is grossly in your favor, I doubt you're gonna come up on their radar.
Where is the thread that this email is in.

You do realize only like 10 people had their accounts disabled right? And it was because valve looked into it and determined by the evidence they found that those 10 people were indeed scammers.

And Valve does NOT disable accounts over dumb trades that both members agreed to. They are disabling accounts that do shit like renaming their weapons community weapons and trading them to people who think they are real, or offering to paint people's hats for free and then keeping the hats, or doing violin scams.

Basically this is you blowing this way out of proportion.
Maybe disabling the entire account is kinda harsh, I mean, valve isn't actually losing anything. I mean, punishment for scamming is understandable, but disabling an account that probably has thousands of hours of playtime, heaps of achievements, and could be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars, for a free hat in 1 game is a bit extreme, in my opinion. Maybe they could suspend the account for a while and return the stolen item, or something.
Scammers are scumbags but the people who fell for it certainly don't deserve to get their items back
They wont learn anything otherwise
Not my fault if someone is so desperate that they offer 6 hats for one.
Its also not your fault that there's only 4 backpack slots
v:v:v
The "IT TEH VICTIM FAWLT LOL" argument is getting old. Enjoy your ban, You deserved it.

it is the victim's fault at least partway
if they weren't so fucking stupid and naive it wouldn't have happened

Where did you magically find out how many they banned?
