I personally think it'd be a bit OP. Besides, Engie don't really need that; he needs something to help his Engineering.

Not much ammo doesn't really affect the guy that camps on top of his dispenser all day
He needs something to help his buildings from Ubered Demoman, Heavies, Pyros, etc.
I think he'll really need that.
A better idea would be a spy disguise locator, like in prototype. If it sees a spy near it, it beeps.

You can do that without the debuff simply by having teammates around.
Maybe it can headshot and can be one hundred percent accurate, but it has a slower rate of fire and can only crit headshot on perfect shots.

I'm down with a six-shooter for the Engy. It goes well with his Texan/Western theme.
The obvious comparison is the Spy's Revolver, but it shouldn't be a duplicate. If it's a primary, it should be more powerful with a greater spread, reload time, and firing interval (kind of like what we thought the Ambassador would be before all that headshot faffery), but if it's a secondary it should have similar spread/speed with less damage. Drawing it should be practically instant, and adding some sort of ricochet might be a good idea.
Needs more whiskey

Colt peacemaker
and Winchesters.

"Big Texan Six Shooter" would be cool, like if the bullets bounced, and with every bounce the bullet will do +20 more damage on impact or something, that'd be so cool!

Avatar fits perfectly.
Anti-missle-grenade sentry, some block that shoots rockets and grenades exploding them, replaces dispenser/ or sentry, so one engi makes anti missle and other makes sentry gun.
The secondary weapon unlock always aims to change the way you play the class, so it won't just be a different pistol. First we'd have to look on what the Engineer does worst, and improve upon that while nerfing his other abilities.
The first thing I can think of is that his buildings are very vulnerable when left alone.
Maybe a Dispenser addition that somehow heals other buildings, akin to healing players, and destroys sappers, altough slower, and maybe give off some sort of warning to other players that the buildings are beind sapped, with the cost of losing his pistol?

But really, the engineer can survive a lot better without his pistol than a scout can without his :/
I can't survive without my pistol as an engineer!
the shotgun is a crit machine
Pistol can now go auto without being screwed by those who use scripts!
The Engineer needs a pistol that makes ubercharges go down faster, so he can choose between getting rid of the uber, or trying to save his sentry.

True. That's why Engineer will probably be left as the last classes to be updated, because it's very hard to devise any good sidegrades that are both fun to use and still remain balanced.
Actually, I think it'd be for the best if Valve left the Pistol alone, and focused more on his melee and primary. Like how neither Spy or Sniper received melee unlocks, but received two secondary ones.
As an Engie I mostly use my pistol for luring people into sentries.
But for all my sentry-protection needs I use the shotgun.

also it does splash damage and auto aims for the head and when you get a headshot you deploy 3 level 3 sentrys that can't die and you uber your whole team for the rest of the round
