And article features in EDGE as "news" about various publishers and how F2P games "should" be run.
"Valve, too, would likely point to the fact that Team Fortress 2 has been a popular online game for almost four years, with a highly engaged community. It is already balanced as such, and therefore offering advantage through microtransactions would either ruin that balance, or require so extensive a rebalance that it might no longer be the same game. Traditional publishers are dipping a toe in the waters of free-to-play at the moment, and may well agree with Reisberger's view that they are not quite there yet."
So yea... I think I trust Valve a bit more than a guy who claims right off the bat he's never shipped anything.
Theres weapons, those fucking help the game.
You already can: If you buy a rocket jumper, you have the advantage of dying faster then any other soldier on your team! So unfair!
Some guy who works in a browser game company has absolutley no right to criticise how actual game developers run their games.
Also he's dumb.

On the other hand, Rockey Jumpah + Mantreads is a pretty funny combo.
What a fucking idiot, if you sell advantages there will be an unbalance no matter what.
TF2 is in my opinion, how F2P games should be done, selling nothing but cosmetic stuff while everything else can be acquired in-game.

Valve should balance the game around Nighteam servers then.

what's bizarre about TF2's F2P method is that the "premium" items can, for the most part, also be obtained in-game for a novel amount of work.
And yet people still buy them
We see how much community modelers make when their items gets added to the game, it's a great example of how a cosmetics shop can be profitable.
Want advantages? Buy the tomislav.
Want advantage? Buy a medic for a key.
Want advantage? Spar on mge.
Let me guess, this guy works on browser/facebook games right?
Most of those games are real pay 2 win
Why should we care about some duechebag who makes crappy browser games that are nothing but pay to win?
I've never shipped a retail product in my entire life," he tells us. "We don't know how to do that, so we think differently. That's a big advantage in this new world.
Go to hell.
Somebody make that picture a meme already

He works for "Bigpoint Games" a company I've never heard of, but apparently they make F2P browser games.
According to them, they have 200 million users, which is a hair shy of 10 times as many users that use Steam.
...but I don't believe that for a second. That would mean their website has one of the largest install bases of gaming ever seen.

True.
Even items that can only be found in crates(which require the purchase of a key) can be obtained by simple trading, so even shop only items can be obtained in-game as long as you have enough metal.

His logic:
I make Facebook games.
Facebook has lots of people.
My userbase is huge.
EDIT: Pretty damn massive.
EDIT 2: Yep, Steam is in trouble.

That's just gold.
Haha, oh wow.
Isn't it common sense to not add those sorts of things to multiplayer games unless you genuinely are seeking imbalance? I'd put money on this guy only working on small-scale single-player games and calling them balanced, it just doesn't make sense otherwise.
[tab] tf2 needs regenarating helath and tacitcool knifes!!!![/tab]
Valve are so bad, they need to add superior weapons that can only be bought if they want their game to be good and balanced.
I know this because I make facebook games.
Ah yes, a face of a moron, that matches his suggestions.

Personally I think he could make a good advice dog spin off.
