Does anyone else think all this could be solved by making the hats not rare?

I'm going to get alot of boxes and disagree from the people who still want the hats to be rare...
However, here's my opinion on the whole thing.
Since the hats are so terribly rare, many people will want to have one.
When they get a hat, and if they cared about those extra pixels, they will often gloat about having it.
The people who do not have hats, will get annoyed by the people gloating, and want to have hats of their own.
Thus we have elitists.
Since the hats are so terribly rare, and that the hats could be achieved by idling... people would idle for hats since they don't always can't be bothered to be constantly playing the game (This is not definitely the result of being lazy although it could be, rather this is a result of that players can't play tf2 24/7, because humans does not work that way).
3 things valve did horribly wrong was this:
1. Made the hats rare.
2. Made the hats only drop randomly
3. Made the hats possible to achieve by not actively playing the game (idling)
If hats were not rare, they would be less special, there would be less to be an elitist twat for, and there would be less reason to idle and there would be no reason to "cheat" to achieve them.
Doesn't anything else think all this could be solved by making the hats a totally worthless addition by removing the thing that made them awesome?
But that's the point of hats, to be rare. They might as well just remove the hats entirely if they make them common.

I assume you own several and are one of the elitist faggots I spoke of in this post.
How about they shut down TF2 Master Server's for a week to stop people bitching.

I don't have a single hat other than the halo.
You assume wrong.

Why does rarity make them awesome?
I think this is a very dumb argument of yours.
I would like one even if they weren't rare and even if they did nothing.
It would be solved if there were never hats in the first place.
Sigh....
I... I actually agree with the OP. I think the cause of all this tension was the number of people who just DIDN'T GET ANY hats.
I mean, think about it: did anybody really get hurt when VALVe let achievements unlock the spy and sniper weapons, thereby enabling cheaters? No, not really.
I for one have never idled, been present for a steam cloud fart, or used the achievement manager, but to be honest, the cheaters never bothered me. Why the hell would they? If some other guy wants to use his modem to get an extra hat once every 300 hours, that doesn't affect me!

Winning the lottery isn't awesome because it's a rare thing to do, it's awesome because it gives you an unfair advantage in real life.
The hat does nothing but look neat on my character, thus it would be just as awesome to me if it wasn't rare.

Pokemon cards.
Nobody would think Charizard was that awesome if he wasn't rare.

So you would rather enter a lottery with 100% chance of winning an awesome price rather than a lottery with 1% chance of winning the same price?

If everyone went around winning the lottery then the money would be worthless, everyone would have the same "advantage". Same with the hats, they lose their value.
Remember, valve wants to implement a trading system.

I wouldn't mind if they lost their value :/
If they lost their value, people wouldn't be assholes about owning them and they would just be a cool thing to add to your character.

You're comparing a video game's item drop system for worthless cosmetics, to a life changing amount of money.

Also, why were you not complaining of this before you lost your hats if it is so much of a problem

I never had any hats, and I always thought they were assholes.
Also I'm not going to bother with the lottery thing anymore, since it's pretty obvious that if you was one of the people who received a hat, you would pretty damn surely gloat about it.
I never had any hats.
Right, did you idle?
Charizard was rare?
When I was, like, 6, I had a holographic charizard...
Right, did you idle?
Yes I did, I played the game, I used idle servers, I used the steam stats.
No items but duplicates.
Don't mind losing the items I got through idling, but I'm still slightly annoyed by having the items I received back during the medic update removed... I heard valve was fixing that though.

Okay.
Your wish came true, having a hat is nolonger rare, seeing as 94.5% of the community just got a hat.

:rolleye:
It is obviously not rare enough or there wouldn't be as much elitist assholes.
Basically, when you shut out a player from something a lot of other people is receiving, there's a big chance he'll be an ass to those players.
