• HORRIBLE FPS with good computer

My TF2 is running at a very bad FPS all of a sudden, I don't know why. The first I saw this happen with (yesterday) was on Cashworks which is notorious for eating FPS so I didn't mind. I have vsync on so it was floating around 30 since my main FPS dunked below 60 on that map. Then I go to play Gravelpit expecting it to be better, but it's still at 30. Now, I usually get about 130-150 FPS in TF2 with the very high config. This is confusing. Bad drivers? Update? I have i5 750 5850 4 gigs ram 1920x1080 res Also my game looks blurry too, like the resolution is low on my monitor. It's all messed up.
-dxlevel 80
-dxlevel 80
I doubt that would fix it much when with dx9 I have maxed at 180 on 2fort. [editline]02:04PM[/editline] Laggy on Badwater too. Uuuggghhhh whats wroooong
-dxlevel 81 :science:
type in launch options -autoconfig
-dxlevel 40 :science:
30 FPS is playable horrible FPS is <10
-dxlevel 40 :science:
Enjoy your 1000 frames per second.
Turn your resolution down and see if that fixes it.
30 FPS is playable horrible FPS is <10
But compared to always at 60 no matter what, this is weird. Also I'm getting input lag with the mouse which shouldn't happen.
Run at lower settings. -.-
He shouldn't have to lower the settings though, that computer is more than capable of full settings.
is something running in the background? scan your computer with antivirus
is multicore rendering off?
Have you updated your drivers? My TF2 once randomly started going from 60 fps to something around 30, and my PC isn't really bad. I'm not sure why it happenned but I usually had to restart the game so it would go back to 60 fps. Then it suddenly stopped but I don't know why, but I suppose it could have been the same problem you have.

Check this thread out, it should help a lot. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=913370 [editline]04:50PM[/editline] Using those commands I got a huge fps boost. With your extra fps you could even force the graphics higher like I did.
Looks like your computer.... sucks. (User was banned for this post ("Meme Reply" - Greeman))
Restart TF2. If that doesn't work, turn off vsync. If that doesn't work, update your drivers. If that doesn't work then you're shit out of luck.
Try starting the game with -autoconfig and then change settings, might work. If that doesn't work, remove your Team Fortress 2 folder. (This will not remove the game itself) And if that doesn't work, reinstall your drivers. And if that doesn't work, uninstall unneeded programs that run in the background and defrag. If that doesn't work, reinstall windows. If that doesn't work, I don't know.
Hmm, using the multithreading commands i got an fps drop, is that bad? [editline]10:43PM[/editline] Wtf! 10 Fps!
Updating to Catalyst 10.3 did not work. It starts at around 80 FPS on koth_sawmill then went down to 30 like it wanted to be capped but it was spastic around 30-40. No vsync. But upon death when it shoots over to who killed you my FPS shot up and was around 600. The hell is going on? ONLY in TF2 does this happen.
Possible heating problem?
Check your temperatures. The BLU Heavy may be onto something here.
Nope. Temps are fine. Never goes about 70c playing TF2. Gets up to 80c playing Bad Company 2 while getting about 55 FPS.
-dxlevel 80
What does this command do?
What does this command do?
Forces the game to run in DirectX 8 mode. Fucks up the colors on gm_flatgrass and gm_construct, but on maps for other source games it only increases performance. [editline]01:44AM[/editline]
Nope. Temps are fine.
That's bad. Full load I'm at 48 C on a card with a 90% overclock.
That's not bad, don't let him scare you. Newer cards like yours and mine always get hot.
Wait, is your computer quad core? Add "-threads 4" to the launch options! Also, I've put together a config for you that should help with your FPS. This goes in an autoexec .cfg file in TF2's "cfg" folder. X:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<Username>\team fortress 2\tf\cfg If you don't find one, don't panic. You'll have to create one. Simply copy+paste any of the config files and rename it "autoexec". Then open it, delete everything inside, and replace it with this.
echo echo Executing autoexec.cfg... echo // Multithreading (1/4 Life's settings, which he tweaked for stability) host_thread_mode 1 //Forces on multithreading. Defaults to 0. r_threaded_client_shadow_manager 1 //Threaded world and flashlight shadows. r_threaded_particles 1 //Threaded particles (Defaults to 1) r_threaded_renderables 1 //Threaded renderables //cl_interp_threadmodeticks 1 //ONLY USE IN SINGLEPLAYER GAMES! Adds some extra interpolation ticks for multithread mode. cl_forcepreload 1 //Force texture preloading sv_forcepreload 1 datacachesize 256 //GeneralDataCache in MB. Use 64MB for 1GB, 128MB for >= 2GB mem_max_heapsize 2048 //Has to be set higher because of CommandLineCommand "-heapsize"| Maximum amount of memory to dedicate to engine hunk and datacache, dont user more then half of your Memory echo echo Autoexec.cfg executed! echo
This file will automatically execute all of the commands in this file whenever the game starts.
