A post came up on Reddit about Mr. Gentle's thievery and I wanted to think of a way to end this nonsense once and for all.
I'm not entirely sure if this would be implementable, but my belief is that a system where the OBJ's/SMD's for LOD's of the models, VTF/VMT's, QC's (if required) were all submitted separately and then collated into a single ZIP file on their side (a la what itemtest does, but better) would fare much better at keeping the duped items out*. If this causes a problem for some items (such as the Community Schema, for instance), it can be resolved on a case-by-case basis - there are not a lot of items of that kind to flood them to begin with, and Valve has obviously acknowledged their existence with the last update. But not satisfying the criteria above should ideally not allow the item to go up at all, thus stopping people from simply uploading some badly photoshopped image of the file and fill the ZIP file with some random crap off their PC.
*- I understand that there is a risk of file linkages in the VMT's being broken but this can be easily fixed if there is some prior documentation that shows how it should be set up in the first place.
My understanding is that the submission process has now become too easy to the point of it being abused by these people and that would need to change in order for the workshop to benefit from actual work put in by actual artists. What say you all - is there a better system for this and if so, how should it be implemented?
wouldn't an easier way be for a system to make a checkmark on the submitted rar for the needed amount/types of files. so it'd simply auto-reject anything that didnt contain say. the obj or mdl. this would eliminate people uploading pictures pretty much instantly.
as for the schema stuff.
the easy case would be for the schema fixes/paint fixes to be submitted in their own category. therefor the system wouldn't flag them for not containing the obj/files

That would also work quite well - I am not so technically minded when it comes to things like automated forms, so I was unsure if being able to search through a ZIP file for required contents would be a simple thing to do. I was also thinking that perhaps a ZIP file structured the way aivanov had originally made might also be effective in ensuring genuine items go in and are easier for them to test.
I agree with you on the schema stuff - Valve has already (sorta) acknowledged their existence and importance in the recent update, perhaps it is time they took it off the workshop and set them up with a project of their own like the Team Fortress Wiki.
