I'm an idler, and people usually complain about idlers being "cheaters" because they supposedly idle so they can get weapons to kill their opponents with, without earning achievements the old fashioned way. Don't get me wrong, I AM and idler, but I got most of the unlocks by achievements. The only reason why I idle is to get stuff that only drops, and if I get another unlock, I just craft it, and try to get another hat/item that only drops. The drop system is broken, but I think there is a way to tweak it so that idlers can't idle anymore. Here's the thing, if there IS a way to stop idlers, why doesn't Valve stop idlers? It should be as easy as making a prompt that stops players from setting up servers with "Achievement", or letters that correspond to the letters in achievement, in their map name/server name. It just seems silly, but why has Valve completely ignored idlers?
The only way to stop idlers entirely is to disable custom content Effectively killing one of the main reasons source is so successful
I'm honestly starting to think they don't care anymore.
There isn't a way to stop idling. You're playing the game, but just actually sitting there. Why haven't they? Because if they did try to take out idling, people would be complaining a lot more about the 'random' drop system than they already are.
And they don't There's always that one fagot who joined Faceplate just to say
Reported to Valve ; )
like we give a shit or they do
All Valve really has to do is disable people being able to get drops while not moving, or having any of the commands activated that make you move; such as +attack, +moveleft, +forward, etc.

I don't mind idlers. I only mind when Valve takes away their items and the forums are flooded with whining idlers again.
All Valve really has to do is disable people being able to get drops while not moving, or having any of the commands activated that make you move; such as +attack, +moveleft, +forward, etc.
Okay, then how WOULD we get drops without idling? Exactly.
Okay, then how WOULD we get drops without idling? Exactly.
What? Play the game?

The +forward commands are bound to the WASD keys, so that wouldn't work.
Getting the new items doesn't really give anyone an unfair advantage. A handful of the unlocks ARE considerably better than the originals, but all the default weapons are still decent, and some of the unlocks are just equal and some are worse than the original item. And in any case, you can't call an idler a cheater because any person can idle. It's not particularly hard to join an idle server and minimize the game.

IMHO, the idling really is better option than actually playing for items. And that shouldn't really be so.
Maybe they should give a higher chance to get something after actually completing a round or being credit to team
doesn't anyone actually, you know, play the game for fun?
Heh, I like dis guy. He says it as it is.
No, I mean screw the hats. Just play. Hell, if I idled, I would have a million hats. Now i just have one sniper hat and I am perfectly content on sucking when I play the game.
I don't idle myself, i don't hate idlers but it pisses me off when this guy comes with like 11 hats and slapping me with his e-peens because he idles. I don't have a SINGLE hat. Also, valve will stop idlers with a human confirmation, every hour of gameplay you will have to type random letters that appear on your screen. :v:
Idling is a symptom, not the main problem. If you attempt to stop idling, without addressing the problems with the current system that drive people to idle, then you will just get a lot of pissed off users finding ways around your supposed solution.
Also, valve will stop idlers with a human confirmation, every hour of gameplay you will have to type random letters that appear on your screen. :v:
And cat pictures in the way of the letters. Mustn't forget those.

Does it matter if we idle? No, I think not.
I only go on idle server to blow the shit out of everyone anyway.
Also, why would Valve stop idlers? It's not like they are suffering from it. The idle servers are not hosted on their servers.
non idlers should get another unique hat/item thats actually good because of all the idlers getting the hats they always wanted while non idlers get nothing or valve just removes all the stuff obtained from idling again.

How about you shut the fuck up about their way of playing. If they want to do nothing at at all, why the hell not. You can do it too, or not, whatever you want. Just stop bitching about idling, it can't hurt you in any way. Believe me, when you get 3-4 hats from idling/random drop/crafting, it isn't interesting anymore.
