Yes, you read that right. I am one of those who used the idler, lost all my shit, and got no halo. (eighty bajillion ubersaws. whoop-de-doo.)
At first I was angry, because in my mind I was thinking "Valve decided to punish all the people who wanted hats enough to break the rules, and gave all the people who didn't seem to care a hat.".
Then my friend (who also idled and lost his dupes and got no halo) shouted at me over steam chat "I HAVE A HAT :D".
Y'see, Valve introduced a little thing called "increased drop rate for hats" that I haven't seen very many people here mention, as it seems to have been consumed by the backlash from the phrase "moral high road".
So I was like "but Valve have set us idlers up so that we don't get the increased rate, right?" After a quick check on the blog, I realised that no such plan had been mentioned. And so with a grin on my face, I gleefully went back to playing TF2 the way I had before, safe in the knowledge that a hat of some kind was incoming.
And now, several hours of play-time (and one night's sleep) later, I have a hat. Not one I particularly wanted, but a hat nonetheless.

If I can get one hat in so little time (easily less time than I spent idling), then I'm happy. So what if I didn't get a halo? All I wanted was a hat, full stop. Now I have one, I am happy. :D

I'm still angry at the update. I never wanted hats. They're completely useless, and (aside from the beanie... :v:) don't look all that exciting. I was using the idler to get the Sniper/Spy weapons, before they were achievement-compatible, and still got punished.
Although I suppose the increased hat drop rate should be a good thing.

The first day after the update I saw 5 people get hats. The second day I saw one and haven't seen anyone get hats since.

To be honest I didn't see any promise that Valve were going to fix it any time soon, which was partly why I idled. But that's irrelevant now, since they've fixed it.

I'm pretty neutral on this update. I didn't lose anything of value and I wouldn't have worn the halo anyways.
I got a Batter's helmet the day after the update came out, and Pie_Tony got a Backbiter's billycock on the funserver today, so it seems they have increased significantly to what they were before.

Probably because I got both of my hats in-game even though I idled(lucky, eh?).

If hats some how happened to be in-game humans that you'd have to capture ....Id rape that in-game analogy of a hat-humanoid. Howevers I knew some how 'The Man' wouldn't tolerate hat rapage in his house so I decided to play by his rules before things got sticky. and sure enough they did.
