It never works. It goes slowly, then it separates a picture per frame

yes. I did.

It took me about 5 minutes to completely get every frame for a 1 min video and it separated into 3000 frame by frame pictures

If you got a bunch of pictures, you forgot the avi part of the command. And even then, you could just patch the pictures together in virtualdub. Same outcome as using the avi part of the command, but it takes a few minutes extra.

And yes, it does take a while, but if you're going to bother making a movie at all, you should make one that's the best quality you know how to.
