I saw that other thread where that guy worked on his map for 9 months. Nice idea but I think this thread will be very slow.
And since this is an emporium, ridiculous requests are fair game. I christen thee, Mapping Emporium, by (politely) requesting a TF2-styled map in the vein of gm_bigcity. Long streets. Big skyskrapers. Very large map. And the rest is up to you! (I need it for a Saxxy awards entry, since gm_bigcity looks too conflicting with the TF2 style)
I look forward to seeing the outcome of this!

Been working on a PL_McKinley for like a year now, but I keep putting it off.
I humbly request that someone look into how feasible the training grounds map from Timesplitters 2 would be as an A/D style TF2 map. I've had the idea to do it for a long time, but I lost my TS2 disc.
Working on a night-time city map. First version should be done in a week or two. Mapping is a completely different beast than modeling. Takes a large amount of time to make it just right. Anyway, concept time School rivalry, cp and/or koth map. -main bases are the school buildings, containing the final control points. -football/soccer field is the center point or only point in koth -1 control point is basketball court -1 control point is an auditorium

I imagine Training Grounds would be like the last area of Dustbowl except with the attackers fighting uphill and with the underground tunnel/canyon route removed.
This is pretty cool but I think I'm gonna stick with modding.
This thread is a pretty cool idea but I think it would be better to only post WIP, and link to the release. Since maps are very long work it's always cool to have a dedicated thread to discuss about it.
Hello! I've been working on my first map for a fair while but very irregularly, with little motivation and a lot of trouble. It's called koth_sanitarium and is a symmetrical koth map that takes place in a mountaintop rejuvenation resort for elderly asthmatics. I hope it will eventually look slightly better than terrible. It's looking quite good already, especially for a first map! Four things: 1 - The displacements need a bit of smoothing. 2 - The window in the upper right needs a frame. 3 - The building in the centre right could do with something to break up that flat wood plank texture, like some vents or something. 4 - It's looking kinda grey and cold. Well, that is how you'd expect it to be, being a snow map, but it just looks slightly dull. Put in a few warmer colours!

I find it ridiculous how modeling gives you more cash than mapping does. Modeling takes significant more time than mapping and in my opinion it's thrice as hard. I can't make maps for shit.

I guess it's hard to find a good way to get people to pay for maps. Also, here are two more pics from my map, the spawn room and the hill. They're currently really empty and whatever little props I've thrown in there just look weird and out of place. If anyone has any ideas about what I should put there, I'd be happy to hear. Don't mind the roof in the hill room, it's under construction. Couldn't a bunch of good modeling mappers or charitable modelers make a few more (and cooler-looking) World Traveler's Hat equivalents? It would be a step in the right direction, at least.
Void talked about it to the modellers in the emporium chat a bit ago. I would have done one but I can't come up with a concept for such a thing. Let alone one that people will really want and be willing to rank up. The world traveler hat is just really ugly. Mappers really deserve more.
