I don't think hats should have been implemented in the first place.

They add nothing to gameplay, and people complain about them MORE than the actual weapons Valve releases. Ultra rare cosmetic items have no place in a first person shooter that should be about teamwork, not about showing off that the random number gods favored you.
it is what it is
I don't think you should have been implemented in the first place.
It was VALVe's decision.
hat's caused tension between everyone.
It would be a lot better if it wasn't random.
but I luff mah hats
Carbonated soda.
I sort of agree with him, since hats do make you stand out. So lets say a medic with an uber sees two demomen; One with a hat and one with none. The medic will obviously choose the guy with the hat which lets say sucks ass.
omg valv shudnt hav implemented a purely aesthetic item dat has no effect on gameplay cuz itz roonin TF2!!!!!!!!!
I bet in a future update, Valve is going to add in the misc. items for each classes (it's like a hat, but you don't wear it on your head, but on your body).
They already did.
*cough* Gentle Mannes Medal *cough*

Yes, but more of them he meant.
I like the hats, but I'd have to agree with OP. They're pretty useless gameplay wise, and they're just messing with people.

They will add more, whats the point of having a slot that only 11,111 people can use?

lol
I think the main problem is that "ultra rare" bit.
Character customization, you say? Personalization, you say? Silly irishman. Headwear is for preening and delusions of superiority!
They add character. TF2 is a first person shooter with character.
It would be nice without constant complaining about the "Poor and Irish", and the fighting between idlers and halo-havers, but I love my Respectless Rubber Glove. Hats are an awesome idea for a FPS and I hope that they can solve the problems with idlers VERY soon.

Fixed.
There's nothing wrong with hats, its the communities impatience.
"To summarize the summary, people are the problem"

Just so you know, that means there's a problem with the hats.
It's Valve's job to make the game work, not the community's.

No it doesn't.
And the game does work, what functionality was lost by adding hats.
it bothers the hardcore gamer, the casual gamer don't really care
so yeah it does create some problems for the so-called hardcore gamers but you can't really please everyone. Can't personally say if I want them gone - there's both ups and downs with the hat system.

Okay, Valve are going to switch the style of TF2 out to be about furries.
When people stop playing TF2, it's so totally the community's fault for being intolerant of furries and not Valve's fault at all for making something the community won't take well.
I don't really know what functionality was lost from the hats, I was just pointing out that you can't blame the community for how they respond. Everything is Valve's fault. They made the game, it's part of their job to work out how the community will respond and they need to design their product around that, not the other way round. They're within their rights to make any update they like, but if they make poor decisions about what to add and the community don't like them, they have only themselves to blame.
Quit ninja rating and post something so we can actually discuss it.

Yeah, because Valve overestimated our maturity

Didn't rate you once.
And no, your argument is stupid. "Everything is Valve's fault" sums up your ridiculous attitude.
No functionality was lost from the hats, TF2 hasn't been ruined, if anything hats have made the game more interesting, occasionally seeing someone running around with crazy headwear. And I'd like to remind you that a very small amount of the TF2 community are actually complaining about this. The rest are, you know, PLAYING TF2.
And your analogy is a pile of wank. If they made it Furry Fortress 2, that would probably be changing all the character models, which is actually a noticeable change all round.
These are digital hats that a small amount of people own, meaning you forget about them in most games.
You'll see when people don't give a shit in like, 2 weeks or so.
The entire misc equip system is just getting too complicated for having nothing to do with actual gameplay.

Too complicated?
You press M, you pick a class, and you pick something you want on the class.
Where is this complication.

Reread all my posts. I'm not complaining about anything Valve has done. I'm just pointing out that you can't blame the community for anything. I've never actually said that the hats have ruined the game. Personally, I couldn't really give two shits about the hats.
