Right, so as the title states, I'm periodically getting some serious FPS dips throughout any given match. Said dips last around 10 or 15 seconds, and take my FPS to about 10, sometimes lower, sometimes slightly higher.
The dips don't coincide any change in ping or graphical intensity (could happen in the middle of a firefight, could happen staring at a wall in spawn, doesn't seem to make a difference). I wouldn't say it occurs at a regular interval, but then I haven't timed it. Other than during the dips, my FPS is perfectly normal, even with everything maxed, as it was before the UI update.
I have tried futzing with the video settings, disabling the Steam Community In-Game, updating various drivers, turning off virus scan software and firewall, killing excess processes, defragmenting the game files and my hard drive, uninstalling and reinstalling, cleaning the registry, etc. So far nothing seems to have helped. I'm open to suggestions.

Note: I have a similar thread running in the TF2 forum, but I felt I should post here as well, seeing as the UI update marked the arrival of my problem.

EDIT: I have tested the regularity of the dips, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern. One sample match took 5 minutes, 40 seconds to get the first, then 3 more minutes till the second, then 2 minutes, 20 seconds till the third, then 3 minutes, 40 seconds till the fourth, and so on.
I have also opened a support ticket, describing the issue at length. Hopefully I can get some feedback from them. :/
Maybe it's because your graphic card is a steaming pile of slag.
Upgrade it. Really.
That's all you tossers ever have to say, isn't it? Do try to pay attention. I know it's hard, and you might have a doctor's excuse, but it's barely a paragraph of text.
I've never had a problem beforehand. Always ran like a dream. Ran great the day of the UI update before I updated. 60ish FPS with everything cranked up (save AA), might get down to 40 in heavy firefights. Never had these bumps. I can play other games that take far heavier tolls on my setup and don't have these issues. Noticed the steam update, so I went ahead and applied it, and restarted Steam to have the new UI forced upon me. When I loaded TF2 not an hour later, the problems started.
Now I don't mind if folks don't know how to help and want to leave a comment, that's fine, but if you can't say something constructive, kindly piss off.
Edit: My apologies for being harsh here. Was a bit stressed last night.
Maybe your laptop has power saving mode on, and it's interfering
I have an 8300, piece of shite :saddowns:
Why not try installing the low res skins?

Nope. Everything's straight.

Trust me. It's got nothing to do with the game being too demanding. It ran practically flawless with High Models/Textures/Shaders/HDR on/etc, and still does, except for when these odd dips occur. I would like to again emphasize that these dips don't seem to have any connection to what is going on ingame, graphically or otherwise. Installing low-res textures and models isn't going to fix anything.
Something changed when they launched the new UI. Need to find out what.

Make sure it's not overheating, and if all else fails, verify the cache/delete the tf folder.
I only get 11 FPS max on TF2. :sigh:
Make sure it's not overheating
I have had problems with overheating with past laptops, so I've been making sure to keep that out of the equation, and as stated, I have run more demanding games that would cause it to heat up faster, and have had no issues playing them.

I've gone to such an extent, and further, have tried completely uninstalled/resinstalled TF2, deleting the entire Team Fortress 2 folder in steamapps after the uninstall, just to make sure nothing that might effect it remained. Unfortunately it didn't help. :(

Have you ever tried using a .cfg geared to boost fps, or using DX 8 mode? It won't look spectacular, but it might get the game working better for you. Back when TF2 first launched I had a total rustbox of a computer, and couldn't run it very well, so I tried DX8 mode, and it got me to a point where it was playable.
Same problem, framerate was fine on old UI now it "dips" as you've said for a second or two on the new UI, only happens in TF2 too.
You could try my suggestions in this thread. Even if it doesn't solve the problem, it could lessen it a bit.

I have a very good (if I do say so myself) high-FPS config but, unfortunately, it won't fit in a PM. It's basically two different high-FPS configs "sewed" together (One of which is from Quantum's Little Config). And I have checked it quite thoroughly for redundant commands.
This happens to me in TF2 and L4D, and I'm pretty sure its since the UI update. I've tried a million fixes and nothing works. However we might not have the same problem. For me, my ping shoots through the roof when it happens, but it clearly isn't a network problem, because voice chat and sounds come through perfect when its happening, and I don't have the problem in other games. Everyone stands in place for like 3 seconds, but while its happening their animations keep playing.
Its unbelievably annoying to me, but I doubt I'll find the fix. Oh well.
Gosh, my laptop(Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz, Mobile Intel 4 Express Family Chipset and 3Gb ram) runs TF2(directX8) just fine on low, even with the new UI update. 60 FPS and 30 in heavy fights.
what if you disable Steam Community in-game ?
Woah you can do that
Woah you can do that
Disable this. If you've still got those FPS dips, the problem doesn't come from the new UI
what if you disable Steam Community in-game ?
As stated in the original post, I have tried disabling the Steam Comm in-game. It didn't help.
While the new UI might not be the direct cause, something in that update was.
