• If you could, would you play the OLD TF2? (No updates etc.)

If you could go back in time of tf2, a time without (lemme rephrase that) UNLOCKABLE HEADWEAR or robot hands, would you?
There's a server that does this and it IS fun, it just gets old faster.
I don't have my fancy hats? Well why not, but I like them. I don't have airblast? Whatever, I'll just stop playing Pyro... The only map worth playing is Dustbowl? Fuck it i'm outta here.
Yes, but honestly, the game just wouldn't last as long without the updates.
I do it something with bots. Unlocks make the game more interesting for me tho. (No, it's not more boring because it's the bots and I compare them to human players. Trust me that much) Would be fun to play it without unlocks or with restrictions sometimes, but I'm rather happy with most matches supporting all content updates.
No. I played the old TF2 on a bullshit 360 for too long. The reason I got into PC gaming originally was to play TF2 with all the new updates.
If you could go back in time of tf2, a time without hats or robot hands, would you?
wait, so would the Engie have a hardhat or be hatless? Paradox!
TF2 would have been dead a long time ago without updates. And by dead, I mean hardly anyone plays it.

I'd play it, but I'd have to get used to not seeing fancy hats and weapons anymore. Just thinking about it makes me sick...
(No, it's not more boring because it's the bots and I compare them to human players. Trust me that much)
I feel the exact opposite... Sure I like being able to play without unlockables, but bots will never be as fun to play against as real people... you may not notice the difference that much, but I do. You're losing out on the small fun moments of odd player interaction, dominating someone loses it's worth, and there's nobody to share the feeling of a good round with. On top of this, they tend to just feel a lot more robotic :(
Yes, infact I still have it on disk, immortallised in it's best form
No, my favorite maps are Goldrush, Badwater and Lumberyard, neither of them existed before the updates. And I like Level 3 Dispensers/Teleporters.
They could just add some system for you to, if you're playing LAN, choose what updates you want to play with. Wouldn't that be great?
Go play on console

Personally, I would love to go back and play TF2 from before the engineer update. Maybe not completely vanilla, but in my opinion that's when TF2 was in its heyday. Not too complicated, not too simple. There was a time (I can't remember exactly which updates it was between) where there was a huge gap between updates (I think it was before the drop rates were modified) where I feel like the game was really well balanced and despite the lack of new content I played constantly simply because the strategy was so compelling. I think it would be fantastic if Valve included a server option that disabled unlocks and reverted weapons to pre-patch stats. Edit: In fact, I just e-mailed Robin Walker about it. The main difficulty in my mind is that I think some post-patch stuff should still be available in an "old school" game mode simply because things like the pyro's airblast and upgradeable teles are such indispensable parts of the game now. But I wouldn't mind if some class and weapon stats (for example the heavy) were rolled back to an older version.
I would for nostalgia.
I think tf2 at the moment is very balanced with every weapon unlocks off.
Vanilla TF2 but with newer updates like Anton said. Lvl 3 buildings, maps etc. Kritzkreig would be cool too. I mean it doesn't really affect gameplay much, also for variation.
There's a server that does this and it IS fun, it just gets old faster.
Can you please share the IP?
Maybe if it went on sale for 2.50 again.
If there were Kritzkrieg and Jarate I'd play it. I would have said Axtinguisher, but it's not really needeed actually. So yeah, those two unlocks and I'm good to go.
Out of the original 5 maps, I only liked Well, Granary, and Gravel Pit. Not a lot of options. That and the classes were pretty imbalanced. And outside of the fact people crave hats and reporting trades are like the Salem Witch Trials, I'm completely fine with TF2 as is.
There's a server that does this and it IS fun, it just gets old faster.
IP and sv_pure setting? Because I have mayn skins for hats and the get fucked up with sv_pu----oh wait... No, for real, can you tell me the IP and the sv_pure setting?
I don't think TF2 would've died without the unlockable weapons. However, if they never made any new maps, it would've died pretty quickly.
Just reading this topic is bringing back really good memories.
I love the idea, and I love Vanilla, but I NEED compression blast, Jarate, Sandviches, Homewrecker, etc. I like to be a team player, so many of the items I require to do so would be lost. I still say yes though.
A perfect version of TF2 would have all the unlock weapons for all classes (but not the polycount ones and only 1 unlock for every weapon), no drop system, no crafting/trading, no hats and all new maps/gamemodes.
Depends if the map glitches were there, thats what made the old tf2 good. Walking across the skyline of dustbowl. :v:
