You know, massive 5 cp maps, that some people can accully get lost in.
Im kinda sick of maps like sawmill, nucleus, or (bad example) 2fort.
I like the not-so-simple maps.
Agree? Disagree?
Is it a good thing to make a map so complicated that people get lost in them?
[sp]no[/sp]
Steel isn't that good to be honest, it'd be better if it was a ctf_cp map instead.
Aside from Points E and D, Steel is pretty spiffy, although you should be able to recap any point.
that would really feel like that one map with the names of the points like Library Fountain Boathouse and i hate that. if you got uneven teams its pretty onesided
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaahaha.

We need more maps like gravelpit. Maps where we can hop roof to roof.
I got balls of cp_steel
I often get lost during setup, looking for Point A :frown:
I always got lost in that map.
Then got my ass raped by spies :(
Steel is just too complicated, too many paths.
We need more maps like gravelpit and more TC maps.
Noo. We need Fastlane and Badlands.
I hate people who play steel once and say they hate it because they don't know where to go. It is a bigger map and more confusing but after a game or two you understand where the first 2 points are and then follow your team to the other and after a little more games you got the whole map down.
I love cp_steel it is my favorite map.
I fuckin' hate steel, getting lost isn't fun at all
Agreeing with the OP and the couple people that have actually played it more than 5 minutes, it honestly only takes a couple playthroughs to figure cp_steel out. When in doubt, look for the many glaringly obvious signs and arrows...
Once you know what you're doing, it is quite a fun map, and is only "too big" when you don't know where you're going. I quite enjoy the aspect of the A-D points actually doing something so that you can take the final and important point more and more easily.
How dumb do you have to be to get lost in there ? The map's been there for ages and there are signs pointing everywhere
No... I do not want to get lost even after I played the map for the 9001th time.
It's not complicated, it's just bad.
Steel may be confusing, but it's way better than hoodoo.
I hate defending on Steel, cos nobody seems to realize that you can defend E from the little windows from A...
So half my team goes derping around lost inside.
For some reason, I loved Steel.
Maybe it's because I broke my 20 killstreak on Soldier blowing the shit out of a pack of Dumbass Scouts, Maget Soldiers, and Black Scottish Cyclops' who all suffered damage getting in.
It is incredibly difficult to make a map as confusing as steel, and it isn't even a Valve map. Professional design for sure, I wish it were played more often.
How to work out Steel - A guide for Facepunch:
Start up a map, don't join a server.
Be BLU.
Run out either door, if you find B go back, if you find A, cap it.
Watch for the massive glaringly obvious doors roll open.
Continue to B and cap it, watch more obvious doors open.
To C, cap, watch signs pop up telling you where to go.
Go to D, cap.
Now go back and examine all second routes you could take.
Go play and enjoy Steel like a man.
Even when you do know your way around, it's still a terribly layed out map which suffers from even worse defence distribution than gravelpit, and everything about the map makes no sense. Like the completely invisible wall near the offenders spawn on way to B.
What i would like to see is maps where you can cap the last point, but it becomes easier as you capture each point besides the last point.
Not necessarily really large ones, just ones using this style of capturing.
I would like to see more maps with the same playstyle as steel. just not the same confusing layout.

But what about RED :smug: That's the only tme I get lost, I don't follow my team and look for different routes, ending up with me going in circles for a while.

I'd agree with this post. I personally hate steel (and yes, I have played it for more than five minutes, I've played quite a few rounds on it), but the playstyle of an A-E cap where E is open from the beginning and caps faster as it goes could have a lot of potential.
I agree with the op, I must admit that I did get lost at first but once you learn the map it's nothing but amazing. I love it, the mapper really captured that massive base feeling.
Steel is one of my fav maps
it was confusing the first 2 or 3 times, but i got the hang of Steel. Its a blast for both teams.
I will never understand how people get lost on Steel, there are signs with what point is where, and a MAP of the entire MAP in the RED spawn.
