• New revamp of the quickplay system being tested out to a portion of users

Via HLDS:
Today's update introduced a new version of quickplay. It is currently in beta. A small percentage of players will be asked if they want to try out the beta, when they press the "Start playing" button. Here's what you need to know as a server operator: * Eligibility rules, maps, etc. have not changed * The new system does not utilize the server browser. * You might see some extra console spam. * Your server must opt into this potential stream of traffic by setting "tf_mm_servermode 1" * Regular joins through through other means can coexist with joins through quickplay beta, with one significant shortcoming: If the first person to join your server joins outside of the new matchmaking system, the system will treat your server is "full". If the first person to join your server comes in through the matchmaking system, your server will accept players from either source. This shortcoming will be addressed soon. So, basically: * Set "tf_mm_servermode 1" to avoid missing out on any traffic from the beta matchmaking system. * If it causes any problems, then opt out! That's why it's called "beta!" From a player perspective, the new system offers two main features: * Form a search party with friends and find a server together. * Never get matched into an empty server by yourself. A server will always be seeded with at least N players. (Currently N = 2 since there will not be many players using the system, but we will increase that over time.) Thank you! Your humble servant, Fletch
Sounds like bait to fake players even more now. Your thoughts? This is in the release version, not the beta:
Just to be clear, the this new feature is in beta status, but it has shipped in the regular game. It is not in the TF beta.
First screencap of it (courtesy of Omolong in the MUS thread): [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542932685181839739/D00E80111A68B665EF7188BDD85465BC9527C379/[/t]
Seems useful, but only time will tell I suppose.
Seems useful, but only time will tell I suppose.
Yep. If it comes to the point where competitive is shoved down people's throats (unless Valve adds something to the Advanced Options that goes along the lines of "Enable competitive features"), then Facepunch and I will have a problem.
-snip- Dumb
It's just normal TF2.
No shit?
well its just a new "server browser". Dont expect mvm to be releaxed with this.
I might actually use this, as opposed to the older quickplay system which I avoided entirely. Mostly due to over here in Australia, your choice of (populated) servers is often restricted to 24/7 2fort instant respawn OR, 24/7 dustbowl instant respawn.
or you'll get 24/7 doomsday instant respawn
oh god, the airblasts.
I got it. I invited a few friends, picked CP, joined Well, played like normal. It doesn't calculate the estimated wait time though, it just says (no data).
Mostly due to over here in Australia, your choice of (populated) servers is often restricted to 24/7 2fort instant respawn OR, 24/7 dustbowl instant respawn.
there's commands to make it so that the normal quickplay only tosses you in valve servers
tf_matchmaking_numbers_valve_bonus_pts_a 10 tf_matchmaking_numbers_valve_bonus_pts_b 5
don't think i've ever seen these posted anywhere on facepunch, but they've existed since forever [sub][sub]this doesn't mean you won't be tossed into a valve server as the only player though[/sub][/sub]

I noticed that when I opened TF2 a few days ago, I was wondering what was going on,
This quick play system is so smart it's tossing me into passworded servers literally every single time I've tried it.(I haven't tried forming a party yet though I seem to be the only one among my friends who has it)
New improvements to the beta matchmaking system went live:
Hello All. Some improvements to the matchmaking beta in TF2 have just recently been made live. If you have reported a problem previously, thank you! Keep an eye out and let me know if you feel an appreciable difference. It *should* be a fairly dramatic improvement. If you have a particularly bad experience (either as a server operator or a client) that you think is probably a bug, please report the time of the event, and the IP of the gameserver. Thanks! Fletch

It's just normal TF2.
Could you get any dumber?
