Sorry for the blogspam but i think he deserves credit http://bloggingcoder.blogspot.com/2009/09/how-to-stop-vista-lag-spike-issue.html Fixed it for me.
Late, but I feel this should be stickied as it may actually help (it didn't help me) It didn't help me because I'm a 64 bit user
Doing this fixed my lag issues. WLAN Optimizer is better than Vista Anti-Lag though, you can set it to start at windows and stuff. VAL wouldn't let me. I'm using 7 64-bit, and it made no difference for me. Coz of course I had to skip the XP drivers step. [editline]04:00AM[/editline] I'll try WLAN optimizer though it sounds grand.
And if WLAN Optimizer doesn't work try enabling streaming mode in it, I don't actually know what that does but it works for some people.
Yeah I made a post about it on Steam forums a while back, you can check if this applies to you by doing the ping check for regular spike intervals. His blog post is basically the exact same as mine but much better laid-out. My brain was seriously fried from spending so many hours finding the solution to this. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711931 At the bottom are alternatives. Everything does the same thing. I personally don't like running a PROGRAM to stop spikes, so I just run a .bat file to stop spikes, and a separate .bat file to re-enable them (to enable searching for networks).

edit: nevermind, check link http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711931
Yeah, its in the link, but click this to stop lag spikes: http://chrislohr.net/uploader/files/1/Disabled.bat Click this to start lag spikes when you're done gaming (and ability to find networks - otherwise you will never find a network once you get disconnected! http://chrislohr.net/uploader/files/1/Enabled.bat But for many Vista users, you need to get on XP drivers before this, or any of the programs, will help you. Its annoying, but its worth it. Read the blog post the OP linked to. It makes me sad when I still see people in-game locking up every 60 seconds.
So this stuff will or will not work for 64 bit users, because I thought it was just my computer. This is seriously a relief.
Does it works on w7 64 bit? Ive been having these huge lagspikes that go all the way up to 900 and they piss me off soo much... Btw, I dont have wireless.
I use normal 100mbit lan and Vista and I have lagspikes. Any suggestions for this case? It's more a "whole game locks" type of lag.
Vista Anti-Lag user here, fixed my problem. Of course, I had to switch to XP drivers for my wireless adapter to get it to work in the first place, but not a big deal. !!!you have to have xp drivers installed for this to work!!! please don't complain it doesn't work, you just have to have the right drivers
Works for me, Windows 7 32 bit user. Thanks very much.
!!!you have to have xp drivers installed for this to work!!! please don't complain it doesn't work, you just have to have the right drivers
yeah but as a 64 bit user this is an impossible conundrum
Just disable the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration Service and it fixes the issue, that is all (to be able to desactive it and still be able to connect over wireless your card's manufacturer must have its own drivers, though)

The game just locks for like 10 seconds. Yes I have dual core rendering disabled.

Just installed WLAN optimizer, but I didn't install the XP drivers, will I not be able to connect to my internet?
you will be, only nothing will happen
you will be, only nothing will happen
Actually, I checked, I COULD connect to my internet, and I AM now.
Late, but I feel this should be stickied as it may actually help (it didn't help me) It didn't help me because I'm a 64 bit user
Fuck so am I.
WLAN Optimizer seems to have helped out a bit I THINK I'll play some more TF2 and tell you if it ever lags
Why does it seems like everyone has problems or hates Vista. I have no problems with mine.
Sorry for bumping this but, does this work on w7 64 bit? I RAGED the hell out of tf2 because of having HUGE non dropping lag spikes that were seriously messing with me...
