• Buff Banner Textures?
    15 replies, posted
Hi, since i am a noob at anything related to messing with game files i would be really happy if someone extracted the Buff Banner's "backpack" textures for me. I'm planning on making the little "screaming eagles" badge and the pin for my messenger bag.
You could do it yourself easily, but fine:

Latin, you oughta google GCFScape. It's the program that allows you to extract the files.
Though VTFEdit is better but only works for materials.
Get both! VTFEdit allows you extract and compile materials from and to the Valve texture file format, and even helps to generate Valve material files. GCFScape let's you extract everything from the game's GCFs. Textures, maps, sounds, models. Everything.
Is it normal that I have to exit steam to use GFCScape?
Is it normal that I have to exit steam to use GFCScape?
Just open GFCScape, then "File -> Recent Files -> team fortress 2 content.gcf". If there is no recent files, then do "File -> Open -> team fortress 2 content.gcf." I did the same mistake.
Is it normal that I have to exit steam to use GFCScape?
No, I use them both at the same time all the time. I don't get why other people always say they need to kill Steam for GCFScape. Old picture from before I got Win7 and the new UI, but you get the idea. :v: [editline]08:43PM[/editline] Hell, I can even play TF2 with GCFScape open. It's perfectly fine.
It has nothing to do with Steam. It's merely reading the packaged files.
May i ask you to take your discussions to another thread, i just wanted to solve a doubt and i don't think i'll need to extract more textures anytime soon. Once again: LOCK THIS THREAD

I REALLY want a GCF comparing program. I was considering, but I wanna get ahold of the current GCFScape source.
