• How to play the Combat Engineer

They have combat medics, so why not? I decided to see how useful an engie was out at the front lines, with surprising result. Originaly, I did this to grief people, but I actually got Uberd, thanked, and was a credit to team. The Weapons: The pistol- Weak, but fast firing. I use this when the enemy is just past shotgun range, or when out of ammo in the shotty. This thing reloads fast, 200 ammo, definitely my Primary weapon. Rolls for crits extremely often. The Shotgun- Strong close up, slow reloading, mostly for finishing people off. The Wrench- Strongest melee weapon in the game (correct me if I'm wrong). This thing packs a punch. I can take down a heavy from behind before he can say EEEAAAAAAGGHHHHHHHHH. Strategies: You have more ammo than the scoot for your pistol, use it. Go MW1 engie if you have to. Just shell out some ammo at people, ware down their health. When they get close, backpedal and fire the shotgun while strafing. If there is a wall, run behind it, peek out for half a second, fire, go back behind it, repeat. As engie, you also have the benefit of making a sentry and dispenser. Make a dispenser somewhere where it helps your team, not your sentry. Then go build a sentry behind a wall or something, and fight with it. Only repair it if you aren't putting yourself in danger, and never upgrade it. Thoughts? Go try it, then give me some more strategies. This is just for fun, don't flame that engie sukz at weponz. Go try it, you will be surprised.

Yes, yes it is. Go try it, it is quite fun despite its dumnocity.
Personally, when playing Engie, it's best to have a Teleporter Entrance at your team's spawn, and deploy the Exit once you make a Dispenser at a forward base. It always helps to have an ally accompany you, as well.
Wasn't there already a thread on this?
my order of offensived engineering is teleport, dispenser, sentry. You'd be surpirsed how quicly people come through your teleporter after it goes up and when they realise you are building a nest many will stick around to help you.
If you're going batshit offense Engineer, build a level one sentry just outside where you're going to attack, and if you start to get chased, retreat to it.
If you're getting chased, build a random structure behind you quickly while running. That small distraction could save your ass.

You would be surprised how much damage a single ninja level 1 sentry can dish out. Usually it will get you 4 or 5 kills before the enemy catches on. Reasoning is that if you place it in a very busy yet reasonably hidden area, enemies will be so worried fighting the forward troops that they won't notice a level 1 sentry chipping away their health. They think that an enemy Heavy or something is shooting at them, not a very vulnerable sentry. This is why I hope that the Engy update will give you the option to have 2 or 3 level 1 sentries over 1 level 3 sentry.
Ughhhh People need to learn that every single melee weapon besides the knife, bat, and unlockables that note it do the EXACT SAME DAMAGE http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Wrench http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Fire_axe http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Bonesaw http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Kukri http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Bottle http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Shovel http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Fists
The shotgun is a very good wep for soloing..of course the pistol is handy to. :siren::siren: True Story :siren::siren: I was playing murderball and doing everything for my team. I capped the middle intel so many times. I was taking down the whole team.

It seems like Snipers always crit me as spy. Probably because they just headshotted somebody for a crit boost. People who know stuff about game mechanics will know what I'm talkin' bout.
But with the amount of points the Medic and Engy will get in a round, they seem to crit a WHOLE lot more due to modifiers.
It's not points, it's entirely, 100% based on damage. This includes negative damage i.e. healing. Thus, medic gets shitloads of crits due to healing, engie gets shitloads of crits due to his sentry and the sniper gets shitloads of crits due to headshots. :eng101:
It includes healing? I had no idea.

I hate people saying "OMG THE WRENCH GETS SO MANY CRITS ITS BEST WEAPON"
Engineer is Probably one of the most under-estimated Medium-power attack class and a good balance between firepower, health, and speed, that is, when not camping his sentry. Any smart engineer will only stop by his sentry every now and then, but certainly not wander too far away from their sentry. And use the fact that a lot of people see a lone engineer as an easy kill, build your sentry somewhere unusual, and lure enemies towards them.
A balance between firepower, health and speed? You do realize he's tied for least health in the game (unless you count Sandman scout).
Battle engi is pretty damn powerful. Buildables serve as distractions, walls, and aides while your weapons deal a decent amount of damage. Pistol for medium range, shotgun for close targets and wrench for that occasional idiot. The only thing making battle engi vulnerable is his 125 life. If he had 150 or 175 I bet that battle engi would be a lot more powerful.
Thanks for using the same term I have since Engie Fanlub.
I put despensers out on choke points so people are never too low on health, and enemies target sentries more than dispensers so they stay alive quite a while
I said the wrench was the best. never did I say it did the most damage or rolls for crits more. It just swings pretty fast, does good damage, and because of all your previous points, it rolls for crits a crapload of times.
Wrench is just as 'powerful' as any of the other melee weapons, (not including bat and knife) and it only gets a high crit rate due to engineer's high kill/death ratio because he is usually safe while his sentry does all the killing.
Never upgrade it...? Just leave it at level 1? Why....?
It depends on what you're using it for. When it comes to battle-Engy, the general advice is to leave it at level 1. Since you probably won't have a lot of team backup like you will when camping a Sentry while defending a point, it's not going to make much of a difference; it'll go down pretty fast if a Demoman or Soldier decides to do something about it. By not upgrading it, you greatly cut down on your time and metal expenditure, so you can quickly set up another when you need to.
