Hey everyone, this is my first topic here, so, please, don't be harsh. Since Valve finally fixed their DMX plugins for Maya (fuck yeah!), I finally decided to start using it in combination with Motionbuilder. That led to a question. How can I animate a character picking something up? I know how to do the parenting in Motionbuilder but I don't know what to do next. I can make Heavy pick up a cube in Motionbuilder but what am I supposed to do to make Heavy pick up a Frying Pan or something that would be used later in Source Filmmaker?
Just a little tip, try to keep your posts in avaliable megathreads if there are any. There is in fact a source filmaker thread, so try asking there. Otherwise welcome to facepunch!
Hi OP, welcome, you can search on the Maxof2d material on you tube, he teaches how to use the "Link Constraint tool" in 3D max for animations, also the "bonemerger tool" in Gmod may help you, but I just got my Filmmaker yesterday, maybe you can animate both the hand and the objective and use the same ratio of movement as the object in the animation tool to keep them linked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWWuq-15H9E&list=PLFC7003E94575ACED&index=1&feature=plpp_video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzz--bAJ0lY&list=PLFC7003E94575ACED&index=3&feature=plpp_video
Like I mentioned, I'm using Motionbuilder and Maya, not 3DS max. Btw, I don't think the bonemerger tool would work in SFM. About your suggestion: That's really messy and isn't very practical. I saw in Max's link constraint tutorial that he created a bone which was picked up by the character. I'd like to know how he associated it with a model in-game.
