• What's so great about the items in TF2?

I'm sure someone will rip me a new ass for posting this (especially the workshop contributors), but I have to ask... What's so great about the items in TF2? Now I'll agree that some of them are helpful at times, but other ones just seem pointless to me. My current loadouts are pretty stock (or stock-strange), with the exception of: scout: bonk, crit-a-cola soldier: liberty launcher (faster rockets), buff banner, battalions backup concheror, equalizer (i hardly ever use it though) pyro: n/a (could sure use a stock-strange axe though, not that i melee much) demo: scottish resistance (to selectively detonate stickies) heavy: sandvich (to replenish health for those times where i play without a medic) engineer: n/a (wish they would fix the strange wrench bugs) medic: n/a (okay... the medic could use a better secondary since his primary is the medi-gun) sniper: n/a (because i never play it) spy: enforcer (because it's stronger, but i'm not liking the recent nerf), dead ringer (feign death, why else?), cloak and dagger (because recharging the stock watch sucks) The stats on a lot of the alternative weapons are crap. eg: the backburner... unless you ambush someone who can't be bothered to turn around, you won't get the extra crit damage... and wtf 150% airblast cost? At least make the airblast effect stronger then, if it's going to use more ammo. That's just one example, and it's probably not a good one, but I'm sticking with it anyways. Hats and Misc items don't appeal to me either. The only reason I put a hat on my medic is because he doesn't have one already... and some of the hats just look plain silly. All those heavies running around with Gibuses on... meh. Give us a heavy hat that doesn't suck. You know, like the Ushanka, but different? No more fake hair. Please. And what's the deal with all the promo items? Why would I play a free (or worse, paid) game only to obtain an item? Going back to the heavy as an eample, the dealer's visor is a prime example. You can't buy it in the store, and the only way to get it is to play some poker game that they squeezed a TF2 character into. If I wanted to play poker, I'd fire up Pokerstars. (This is ignoring the fact that you can't obtain certain promo items after certain dates... Way to treat new (or newer) players like chopped liver, Valve. Sure, I could have posted this on SPUF... but I'm already here and I already typed it, so fudge it. :P
What is amazing about them? EVERYTHING!
Because they allow for alternate play styles and change the way the game can be played, often making it more fun? And in the case of cosmetic items, it's because people enjoy collecting stuff. There's just a draw to character customization. You USE a lot of non-stock items so I don't even know why you're saying this.
pls go
Promos are optional. You don't HAVE to play some game you don't like to get a hat. Valve isn't forcing you. It's for the fans of the other game (and to raise money for the other gaWHOOPS.) If you don't like the other game, then don't get an item that supports the game.
this post is sorta amusing if you read it in the voice of jerry seinfield
Does this guy even play Pyro seriously
Because some promos are worth more than the game it self

BECOUSE YOU GET bored of your weapons and your happy when u get new ones, this is what valved does to us!
Sure, I could have posted this on SPUF... but I'm already here and I already typed it, so fudge it. :P
You should've posted it on SPUF. Take your trash to the landfill.
I would loooooooooooooooove to see you create a balanced and functional weapon system such as Tf2's. I also have a lot of fun with the hats and such, adds humor and uniqueness to the game and our models. Would you rather play a cookie-cutter brown and gray FPS that is more about realism over fun? Also pyro is my favorite class and the backburner is my weapon of choice and I kick some major ass if I do say so myself. The other team has to time to turn around if you're a even a remotely good player. It used to not have any airblast which shows how new and inexperienced you are. You're an idiot.
For future reference mate we have threads for this sort've thing. No need to make your own.
eg: the backburner... unless you ambush someone who can't be bothered to turn around, you won't get the extra crit damage... and wtf 150% airblast cost? At least make the airblast effect stronger then, if it's going to use more ammo. That's just one example, and it's probably not a good one, but I'm sticking with it anyways.
That's a terrible example because you don't understand the stats or the design of the weapon. First, the +10% damage is for all damage from the weapon. Not just on crits. Second, the weapon was designed for ambushing. Critflames have an incredibly high DPS, and generally if a lighter class gets caught in them they don't stand a chance. Third, in ambush situations, airblast would be a liability since you don't want to launch your intended targets away. The reason it's there at all is in case there's a burning Medic walking past who's almost dead. You want to play with the airblast, you shouldn't be using the Backburner.
The stats on a lot of the alternative weapons are crap. eg: the backburner... unless you ambush someone who can't be bothered to turn around, you won't get the extra crit damage... and wtf 150% airblast cost? That's just one example, and it's probably not a good one, but I'm sticking with it anyways.
The Backburner was never intended to be used in the same manner as the stock. If you really understood that you'd see why the +150% airblast cost isn't that big of a drawback. The idea is to get in from behind and ambush, if you're good the enemy team won't have time to turn around. It's not just another "+10 damage -10% weapon switch speed" stat weapon it's actually a weapon that (is meant to) overhaul(s) the entire fashion in which a class is played. It turns the pyro into a flanking asset. Like how the gunslinger turns the engineer into an offensive asset, or how the huntsman created the offensive sniper. If you didn't understand any of the above text, think of it this way. You wouldn't jam bullets into the end of a pocketknife then complain that it doesn't fire correctly, would you?
the backburner... unless you ambush someone who can't be bothered to turn around, you won't get the extra crit damage...
*laughs for 2 minutest straight* You serious? They can't turn around, they try but they are already DEAD.
Are you seriously saying the Backburner is underpowered, omfgbun? I just busted a gut. Also, I bet you there wouldn't be nearly as many people playing now as there would be if Valve didn't generously update the game. TF2 feels fairly fresh every year, it's one of the few games I know of where people came back after not playing for a year and they go "what the fuck happened while I was gone?" It's been updated with hundreds of new weapons, dozens of new maps and made modes, and cosmetic items, all for free. Yeah, some might be hit and miss. But we've still gotten complete gems that change the whole playstyle of the class like the Homewrecker and the addition of airblasting, the Kritzkrieg, Scottish Resistance, just to name a few.
remember when it came out and the backburner gave you +50 health lmao
First of all, you don't seem to have ANY idea about design of any weapons. Second,
Sure, I could have posted this on SPUF... but I'm already here and I already typed it, so fudge it. :P
Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V and away you go.
