• Destroying your own sappers: A new tactic?
    27 replies, posted
I just found out today (in before clocks, clocks everywhere) that you can actually destroy your own sapper as a Spy. Wanna try? Just bind f "destroy 3 0", lay down a sapper and hit the f key. Now imagine being an Engi, and your sentry gets sapped in the other room. You run over to fix it, and an engineer is already there with his wrench out. Then he seemingly destroys the sapper, and runs off. Without looking at his nametag, would you think he's a spy? The only weird thing is it gives you a bonus point every time you do it. Little later there, sorry.
9 kills 23 deaths way to go man make a montage
9 kills 23 deaths way to go man make a montage
I stood in front of sentries spamming the destroy key. Do you think I was playing seriously?
Best strat for this is if you find an unattended tele or something and need cloak really quickly. I can't confirm that you get cloak from broken sappers though.

not even what you have wrapped around your left wrist has enough clocks
Go ahead and drop this into your autoexec.cfg
//Spam dat sapper Alias "+sappah" "slot2; +attack" alias "-sappah" "-attack; alias +heh +unsap_spam; alias -heh -unsap_spam" alias "+unsap_spam" "alias unsap_ref unsap; wait; unsap_ref" alias "-unsap_spam" "alias unsap_ref ; alias +heh +sappah; alias -heh -sappah" alias "unsap" "destroy 3 0; wait; unsap_ref" alias "+heh" "+sappah"; alias "-heh" "-sappah" bind "i" "+heh"
(Not made by me)
I suggest putting it into your spy.cfg instead of your autoexec. So that you can bind something else to "I" on different classes.

The script that Jax posted above my post. Or any Spy specific script, really. If you put it into your autoexec, it'll be active for all classes, which means that all of the button you have bound for X actions will be bound to your Spy stuff. Which can be annoying when you need something for Engineer, or accidentally hit a key that makes you swap to melee when in a firefight.
The broken sappers can also be used as metal for your watch.

a new tatic to be more useless for your team..
Watch the notifications.
This is a great tactic in mine eyes.
As a real tactic (Not just spamming sappers), this can be useful with an engineer disguise to help complete the illusion that you're on their team.
my friend does this all the time but hes a douche and just wants to farm points
You can apply and destroy them repeatedly, the Engineer can never destroy one so it's basically an invincible sapper.
A nefty bit of luck would be required, aswell as an unattentive engy, while it can create quite the optical illusion it would still mostly alert him, after all no kill for the sapper by anyone. Even though the sentry may seem safe to him, it still leaves him looking for a spy that has not been dealt with. It could be useful at times, but mostly for messing with the engineers head.
I don't find it useful at all. Here is why: First of all, there are two kinds of sentry nests in general: Those with an Engineer turtling and those that are abandoned for whatever reason (Engineer helping out on the frontlines, leaving it to get metal, whatever). If the Engineer is turtling and watches his stuff all the time, this strategy is naught anyway. If the Engineer goes away, it's often best to sap everything when he's away and then shoot the buildings so they go down faster. Secondly, should the Engineer come back in time and you don't want to take the risk to shoot his stuff, so you use this tactic instead, it'll still be very suspicious even if they don't look at the Engie's name. Why? Because you don't see the helpful Engineer whacking at the Sentry and he doesn't repair it either, although that's how it usually goes if an Engineer helps you out. You may get away with it, but you may also not. I don't think it's a very safe way to keep your cover. Besides, it's often better to hide somewhere on the way the Engineer is probably gonna take to reach his stuff so that you can stalk/backstab him on his way. From my personal experience, it wasn't very helpful. It's funny to confuse some Engies, but good players won't be tricked that easily. The old tactics worked better for me and often resulted in actual destruction and death, but if it works for you, I won't tell you how to play Spy.
