Mouse stutter/lagging while holding down a movement key
18 replies, posted
I have had this issue for awhile now. While in game be it TF2 or any other Valve game my mouse will seem to stop as if i'm lagging even when I have a steady 70~80 fps going. I've tried -noforcemaccel and turning off pointer precision. I had googled around and saw people with the same problem but no real fixes.
Windows Vista SP-2 32bit
Core 2 Duo
Nvidia GTX 280
Don't move then.
Sorry :v:
But really, what's with everyone having so much problems lately, especially with TF2?
For me it runs fine on high settings (except when my fan turns on, then everything nearly freezes), and my laptop is not THAT great...
strange.

You had my hopes up when I saw there was a reply.

How about posting what kind of mouse and keyboard you have.
Sorry :(
Uh, have you tried asking someone at Valve about it or anything?
Because there seems to be a lot of lagging problems and such.
idk, maybe I'm just being dumb again.
Do you have a USB keyboard or PS2?
I've been getting mouse lag a lot lately too. It seems to have started after the most recent update.
My mouse is a Logitech G500 10 Buttons Dual-mode Scroll Wheel USB Wired Laser 5700 dpi Gaming Mouse
and a generic keyboard from Hewlett Packard

Keyboard is PS2

Keyboard is PS2[/QUOTE]
That will be the problem then, the old style PS2 keyboards (unless its a media one but have to be a fair resent one) only allow you to press 3 keys at once, when you press 3 or more it will make a beeping sound (not on all keyboards) and will lock your mouse in time with the beeps. Unfortunately the only way to "fix" this is to get a new keyboard

This has only started to happen recently. Also only happens in source games.

I have a PS3.
:downs:
But seriously. I knew that the old PS2 ports caused slow down, but I never knew that it could cause that much damage.
I've heard about ways to overclock them but I have no need or reason to try it.
overclock your ps2 ports? fuck off

They call it overclocking the port even though it's just increasing the sample rate.

I actually have a similar problem, except I get no lag when just moving with the movement keys, but when I start moving the mouse to look around, it skips/lags like crazy.
And just like you, it started happening with the recent updates and in all source games.

This worked thanks.
the problem was probably that the thread that managed the input was being slowed down because of multicore
same thing can happen if any process' priority is set to high

For some reason, the game automatically turns Multicore Rendering on, even if it's not recommended for your system.
I have the instinct of checking it whenever I load up TF2.
