I have started a server that is essentially TF2 before all the updates were added.
It's located here: 184.154.46.99:27015
The mod is located here:
http://www.richanderson.net/tf2/
The following changes were made:
Removed Non-Stock Weapons
Removed Hats
Prevents Duels
Removed Found Text
Removed Trade Text
Removed Taunt-Kills
Removed crits at round end
Engineer: Disabled engineer's ability to pick up sentry, teleporter, dispenser
Engineer: Disabled Dispencer upgrade past level 1
Engineer: Disabled Teleporter upgrade past level 1
Spy: can no longer regen cloak using Ammo Boxes
Spy: can no longer use enemy teleporter
Spy: can no longer use metal from exploded engineer buildings to regen cloak
Soldier: Increase rockets to 36 (default 20) (feb 28 2008 update)
Demoman: Inc 30 stick 40 nades (feb 28 200 update)
Pyro: Removed Pyro AirBlast (added during pyro update)
Pyro: Increased Pyro Dmg 20% (apr 28 2010 update)
Pyro: Increasted burn duration to 10 sec (apr 28 2010 update)
HWG: Minigun spin-up/down time increased by 25% (apr 28 2010 update)
Needs slow spystab animation....Scout's jiggly legs. etc.
I don't get why you'd remove things like
Spy: can no longer regen cloak using Ammo Boxes
and
Engineer: Disabled Teleporter upgrade past level 1
I can fully understand removing hats and non-stock weapons, but those fixes were done for a reason.
Crazy bacon legs are not dead.
Soldier: Increase rockets to 36 (default 20) (feb 28 2008 update)
Demoman: Inc 30 stick 40 nades (feb 28 200 update)
I can understand a vanilla TF2 server, these nerfs were implemented for a reason.
Great, but it's so weird playing pyro without airblast now
Jim have mercy.
Who would want to play this unbalanced server?
I'm sorry but you have to keep some things, like Airblast.
Who would want to play this unbalanced server?
I would, but just because I'm a historian.
I don't think anyone does, TF2 was pretty unpopular and unbalanced back then. There's a reason why there's so many TF2 players now compared to the few we had back then: Nobody wants to play an unbalanced, repetitive game.

Jesus fucking Christ what are you talking about?
The game was original back then, and had a lot of players. Of course not as much as now after all the "Free hats if you buy this" not to mention all the Class Updates and all the advertising and.. what the fuck not. It's a great game
About the balance back then.. nah. You obviously can't even imagine how it was.
Besides, I haven't seen many FPS games getting updated this often(?), and it is very similiar to MMO updating. Except in TF2 it's done through entirely new weapons which defy the original roles (in a good way, like Huntsman vs Sniper rifle) of the classes.
This leads to an endless loop of buffs/nerfs which makes it so non-repetitive.
Best hope to God Valve knows what they are doing here.
On-Topic I wouldn't play on your server, sorry OP.

No :colbert:
I just went on the server. Airblast works?

Why these?!
Just make a server without the unlocks, and I'll play it.

:unsmith:
Yep, airblast, picking up sentries and destroying stickies still works. Also the pistol fires at a fixed rate.
EDIT: Just noticed six grenades in the Nade launcher

Really? I think that was patched before TF2 was even released. I can't find that bit in any of the patch notes. That's... Pre-vanilla.
Generally, if you use a mod that everybody hates...your server sucks.
I hate TF2 now, Before the updates it was great.
This mod would be good if it didn't undo the class balances valve added.
Oh boy, here we go again.
Thread gets near the end of page 1. Server playercount stays below 6. Thread and server dies.
Im on the server.
Tumbleweed everywhere.
Those servers are boring as fuck. Whats the big deal with new content?
Blocking unlocks and hats is all you need to make it vanilla. There were one or two tweaks to the stock items to make them more usable compared to their unlocks, but things like Engineer building upgrades and the Airblast should be kept, at all times. The Heavy minigun spin boost could be removed, but it doesn't need to be.
I would join the server just for a taste of the old days, since no one hosts servers for the TF2 Beta.
You forgot to remove arena.

Isn't it illegal to even own the beta anymore?
Didn't you already have a thread? http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1021904-Ridiculously-Vanilla-TF2
Also looks like the servers are down.
Isn't it illegal to even own the beta anymore?
It shouldn't be, but from what I understand it only is if you were not included in the whitelist of people who got it back in 2007.
This is over the top vanilla, and I do not like it.
Either make it an actually fun form of vanilla (disable all forms of use of the steam cloud, negating trading/crafting/finding/equipping/etc but leave the updates) or make it pure vanilla, removing every single update, making tf2 as it was on release (yes that includes the overpowered to christ nade launcher with 6 nades loaded)
