Something strange keeps happening to me - I "found" the haunted gift 3 or 4 times today. Huge, glowing, green\orange present box thing - alright. Now every single time I ran into it I heard that "gift found" sound and... nothing happened. No message, achievement, nothing. Note that I was alone each time and there was no chance of someone else taking it at the same moment. Then about 1 minute after I "took" it, a message displays that someone else found it. What the hell is going on, is it me doing something wrong, or some glitch, I have no idea.
you need to wait for a particle effect to come out of it
not sure what it is though... never found one.

On a serious note it's probably the spectator bug
Shortly after the present spawns, it is in a "Ghost" mode for a little bit where it can't be gotten and is transparent.

Wasn't that fixed in the latest update?
Happened to me too the 2 times I got close to a gift, then I hit it with a melee weapon and it worked.

This happened to me too, next time I died I found it.
everytime i got a gift i have too open the store to get it
I picked up a gift once (there were particles, and it was clear as day, not transparent), no message was shown, then I see that I had lost connection to steam, which made my load-out disappear. I was pissed, and I didn't actually get the gift. :argh:
I've missed out on a few masks just like you. Don't beat yourself up over it.
Make someone trade you you'l find it then
I couldn't find any gifts,so I decided to trade stupid items for masks(eg. jarate,sandman...)

give up on gift, they are impossible to find, and when you find, a scout takes it and jumps away
