http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=8943
There are some words that, if I have to use them to describe a man, mean that man is dead to me. Also to everybody else. Because I will kill that man. One of those words is "hatless". The other is "coward". I gave you mercs one simple thing to do: Defend Mann Co. from an unstoppable robot horde. Now Bidwell's telling me some of you are abandoning the fight in the middle of attacks. Firstly: What am I even paying you in found money that falls out of robots for? Secondly — actually, put this first, it's more important — I am coming for you. But thirdly, Bidwell's drummed up some penalties for any coward he catches running away from the frontlines. If any of you cowards out there find these penalties too harsh, don't worry about it, because see Point #1 (I am coming for you). Whatever penalties you get will seem like a day at the Being Afraid store (or wherever it is cowards like to shop) when I get my big angry hands on your beady little heads.

For more information, visit the updated Mann vs. Machine FAQ.
This to stop people from jumping between games to complete faster?
I was about to post this. What I don't like about this, is for adults, you know, people with jobs and other obligations, could get penalized because they HAD to leave a game. But I do like this idea. I only quit when everyone else quits 99% of the time though.
The penalization is only temporary, so if you had to go to work I'd assume it would be lifted by the time you got home
Ah, I see. Well thats fine.
I imagine its a short timeout after quitting a game, or hinders your ability to matchmake for a period
Well, if you have to leave for work right away, you shouldn't really be playing MvM in the first place.
Well sometimes I get called in while playing games and my boss tells me to come in ASAP because of emergencies on my days off.
Q: What if I'm vote-kicked? If you are vote-kicked by other players, you are not considered to have quit intentionally and will not be considered to have abandoned the game.
Time to be an annoying prick every time I want to leave Kunai Spy with micspam
So we now have a matchmaking disconnect percent like fighting games. Lets see if this thing works.
Q: What if I crash or lose my connection? If you crash or lose your Internet connection, your spot on the game server will be reserved for you to rejoin within three minutes. If you do not rejoin within three minutes, you will be treated as if you had quit the game intentionally.
the fuck is this shit My computer can't even start up steam in three minutes when i turn it on.
Dota2 is five minutes, I wonder why tf2 is 3, especially since tf2 takes longer to boot
the fuck is this shit My computer can't even start up steam in three minutes when i turn it on.
TF2 for me takes 5 minutes just to boot up...
These penalties don't seem to affect those who go to servers ad-hoc.
Copied from Stuff You Hate:
To clarify, this only affects players who leave before they've seen a round complete or fail. If you have to go after a couple rounds, you won't be punished. Pretty effective slap in the face to people just looking for vouchers. If you keep quitting games it'll give you less and less priority, until it spends an hour or so connecting you.
No reason to panic about this unless your computer is extremely unstable, or unless you're one of the horrible people who jump games in search of 3+ voucher lobbies.
So its only mid wave leaves that count, I'm okay with this.
So its only mid wave leaves that count, I'm okay with this.
It also punishes people who join a lobby, then immediately leave before they've even played one round. Doesn't matter how many the existing team played and won/lost, if you don't see at least one victory or failure before you go, you're stamped as a deserter.
Copied from Stuff You Hate: No reason to panic about this unless your computer is extremely unstable, or unless you're one of the horrible people who jump games in search of 3+ voucher lobbies.
So if you fail 3 times in a row you can't leave without getting a mark in your disconnect percent. Kinda annoying.
hahaha they only do this for mann up servers all those other people who are playing but not feeding valve money?? fuck em
So if you fail 3 times in a row you can't leave without getting a mark in your disconnect percent. Kinda annoying.
According to the FAQ you can still leave if you lose a wave. just you can't leave mid game without even playing.
So if you fail 3 times in a row you can't leave without getting a mark in your disconnect percent. Kinda annoying.
No? Again, it's only if you leave without having seen your team win or lose any rounds at all. You're free to leave a failing game if you've actually witnessed it fail at least one time.
From what I've seen, rage-quitting is a far larger problem than people server jumping looking for surplus tickets. They need better matchmaking to pair players of equal experience together, not this shit.
When i saw this title in my Twitter feed i was hoping this involved the Halloween update somehow.
When i saw this title in my Twitter feed i was hoping this involved the Halloween update somehow.
It could...?
Secondly — actually, put this first, it's more important — I am coming for you.
So they're taking the penalty system from CS:GO and adapting it for MvM. Cool! I hope this works out.
That answers my question I guess: If I get stuck in a team of gibus snipers I'll just have to watch them lose once before I can leave?
I am glad this new system does not affect the happy side-effect of abandonments: weeding out the more selfish players. Seems like things tend to get a lot easier once they get replaced! I find it very easy to think Saxton Hale thinks Abroad and In Police Custody are emotions, and that Elated and Furious are the only other two. e: it'd be nice if we could see the percents! an abandonment rate of like 50% would be a great red flag.
hope the "penalties" vanish after a certain ammount of time because I have a feeling I might get a few of those accidently
I found 3 mins a bit too short for getting back, 5 will be better imo.
