Every time I try to start TF2, Steam always tries to validate the game files. This has been happening for a couple of weeks now, and I'm not sure what I should do. This doesn't happen with any other games; Just this one. I've tried restarting Steam, deleting clientregistry.blob, and removing 90% of my Steam folder, but the last one caused a bunch of weird crap to happen so I freaked out and moved it back. Could someone help me out with this?
I apologize if there's a megathread for issues like this. If it exists, I didn't see it.

Welp. It just said it was at 100%, then I tried to play, and it started over. This is painful. Any help would be appreciated.
I also experience this, problem, and so far the only solution I could find was simply waiting for it to hit 10%, then simply hitting cancel and play.
I'm still unsure whether or not there's a fix available, but hopefully someone'f figured it out.
Re-install tf2. Then create a backup so if it starts validating again you can delete and restore.

I'll try that. Because everything is stored in the cloud, I won't lose any data, right?
I fixed it by manually closing steam before I shut down, I had reinstalled but it still continued to validate.

All your data is saved to your profile in steamapps, so it shouldn't. It'd be a good idea to back that up too. And yeah, things are saved in the cloud too.

That seemed to fix it for me, but I'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks.
Also, I've been talking to Greuben, and we've been working on figuring it out. (Greuben works on programming steam)

I did all of that. #1 and #2 didn't work, and #3 completely broke Steam. It wanted me to locate an installer or something like that and refused to work until I plopped all of the files and folders back into the Steam folder.
How long did you leave it at 100% for? Wait at least one hour.

Really? I haven't tried that. (Because, I don't know if Valve knows this, but 100% usually means that something is done.) I'll do that when my cache is done defragging. Uninstalling Steam/TF2 will be my last resort.
I've left it on the validation, and it's actually gone to the completion screen after I forgot it was open, next time I started up, more validation.
Yeah, they just don't have a status for "cleaning up." Just wait 15m-1hour after 100%.
Always works.

(Just threw it here because it was relevant.)

you should probably snip that video.
Shit goes down on facepunch.
Okay, so I seem to have managed to fix it by completely defragmenting my game cache. I have no idea if this is a permanent solution, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've started the game three times today and haven't had to verify anything. We'll see where this goes.
