This is one thing I've noticed on a lot of servers- not all of them, but a good deal- and it's really annoying. You know how some servers have no tags at all, even though they're supposed to at least have a gamemode? Why do server owners deliberately remove tags? Are they afraid somebody won't see their server? Newsflash: If I exclude your server because of a tag, it means I wouldn't join your server anyway.
Removing tags is manipulative and extremely irritating. I hate it when server admins do stupid shit like that just to boost their server ranking. Why does it have to be about getting the most hits?
What really bugs me about it, though, is servers running fast/instant respawn that don't put the goddamn tag in. Yeah, most of them at least put it in the name, but if I exclude all servers with non-standard respawn then I shouldn't have to check the name for it, too.
Also, why is there no sv_pure tag?
I'd also love to have a tag for fake playercount servers, but that'd be impossible to enforce.
I hate false player counts far more than missing tags. Usually I just look at the server name to figure out what they're running.

I do, too. It just bugs me that they don't tag it properly in the first place so I end up going "Oh, this server looks goo- wait, no, they've got instaspawn."
The whole point of tags is so you can just say "I don't want instaspawn" and not have to worry about it.
I hate false playercounts more, too, but who doesn't?
I just scan the titles and avoid instaspawn. Can people not wait twenty seconds? Without the respawn time, the balance is really screwed up.
A Pure tag would be awesome.
As would a fake player count tag.
It oughta be forced.
More vanilla servers should add that to their tags. Half of the time servers that have vanilla in their tags have it right next to gravity, rtd and hlstatsx.

oh gawd. cp_yukon. 20 seconds waiting, then like 10 minutes of walking to the cp :bang:

Ever heard of a teleporter?
Or even better: don't play yukon.

agree with the second point. i don't but play it a lot. i played it a few times, you know its in some servers rotations.
it was just to prove that spawn times sometimes are way too freaking long

Now that I think on it, 20 seconds is a bit excessive; I usually prefer it when the respawn time is somewhere between 5-15 seconds.

whatever. 15 seconds and 10 minutes of walking... usually you end up around 19 any way
Inane Yukon whining aside, I agree entirely with the OP. I usually only use my carefully-compiled list of favorites, but sometimes I want to add more to my list so I venture forth into the "Internet" tab. Excluding certain tags is a very important feature for me, and when you exclude so many in search of a decent vanilla game, you notice a LOT of tagless servers. I really wish there was a way to exclude tagless servers entirely, so they don't clog up my list.
It's even worse when it's full of bots

That is mostly seen in TFC and CSS
Man I just want to play a normal round of 2fort without that stupid ass instant/reduced-respawn.
What happened to the server's karma? I remember Valve added something. When a player comes, the server is given 1 point, when one leaves, server loses 2 points?

This would help with fakecount, that's why I'm asking.

when someone came in the server would lose like 10 points, every minute this player stays on the server it would gain 1.
how you described it would make a server loste points witouth ever being able to gain some.
they never actually implented it i believe. only got the idea
I use tags in my servers.
Good ol' basic map rotation

The system was implemented, but it didn't achieve anything.
A lot of the servers that use fake playercounts are big clans that get enough traffic so they don't get delisted. Of course, they don't need fake playercounts, but the admins are greedy assholes with no common sense.

Lose 15 per joining player
One gained per minute player is on
I always stay on for at least 15 minutes. Even if the map changed to Well 2 minutes in.
I use tags :smug:
False player counts, reserved slots, and auto-kick-because-ping-is-over-150.
And if that's not bad enough, dumb mods that change gameplay; instarespawn, increased player count, infinite sentries, always crit, and turbo
but gravity and friction are always fun to change!
