I'm working on a larger-scale version of our very own Facepunch Emporium. Right now it's only a single static page, but I've employed another friend to help me out with the back-end stuff. I estimate finish time in about a month or so.
And some screenshots (NOW UP-TO-DATE):

Oh, and to get some discussion going, I'll pose a question: would it be a good idea to have a 5-star rating system, comments, or both?
Thread resurrection!
Ladies and gentlemen, I've resumed work on the website. Estimated time of completion, 2 weeks. TF2emp.com is the domain name I have chosen, and what I will be working from once the site is up and running. I am willing to discuss moderation positions shortly.
Not really hard, but I like the tf2-y look you did.
Will the Emporium only accept good/decent skins? Or just anything :raise:
Oh, and to get some discussion going, I'll pose a question: would it be a good idea to have a 5-star rating system, comments, or both?
I vote both.
Both herr.
Able to tell of any possible improvements and what is considered a suckish mod.
There should be mods who review skins before they are posted publicly. I don't want this site to end up like FPSB.
Needs a comments section so people can post ways to improve it, not just THIS HAT SUCKS DERP
Not really hard, but I like the tf2-y look you did.
No, not hard yet. So far, just static HTML/CSS; that's where I excel. I'm not so sure how to set up a MySQL database, and I don't know PHP, so that's where I'm going to need help. I have a friend who's great at that stuff though, so together we'll be able to finish the site.
[editline]11:23PM[/editline]
Okay, so I'll include both a 5-star system and a section for comments. Now, the question is, what do we accept into this site; good stuff or just anything?
Comments, ratings, and comment ratings...
EDIT: And perhaps more catagories for organizing the gallery (Alphabetical, Author, Class, etc.)...
Mirror bitches (Host files for them).
can please can there be no reskins? can it only be quality stuff. Like actual mods. no 3 second mspaint jobs.
But Valve will be taking the quality stuff, this site's for the rejects mostly I'd have thought...
If the poster contest is anything to guy by.
NO.

The Kenyan Scout skin anyone?
can please can there be no reskins?
That isn't fair.
Like actual mods.
Anything that changes the game visually is a mod.
no 3 second mspaint jobs.
Well no shit.
Reskins that don't fit into TF2 or make sense are the only reskins I wouldn't expect anyone to accept.
I like the design so far though.

skins do not compare to model in both quality and effort. anyone can skin, but modeling requires skill.

If something is done well, why would it ultimately matter? I'm in support of awesome things people do. But on the other hand it's not my website, so if it's models only so be it. There are depositories for skins elsewhere so it's useless to bring drama into the matter. Just keep the awesome coming.
Perhaps a subsidiary of each hat that leads to reskins of it.

I was originally going to add more sorting options, but my friend said to keep it simple. Scrap that.

Thanks! Rated friendly.

And in regards to the skin matter, what if I added two main sorting categories: "hats" and "skins/sounds/etc."?
[editline]02:10AM[/editline]
Mirror bitches (Host files for them).
Sorry, but what does that even mean?
Idea: Have the mods very loosely moderated, but have a section where only good mods go. Maybe even have special sections for sounds, too.
Also, mirrors are alternate downloads.
Reskins must be cool, like a more defined Sniper's Scar. Not a "HEY BLACK VEST SNIPER EPIC!" skin, those are just dumb.
I want particles category.
Or would those go in skins?

I think you overdid the vest a little bit, other than that it looks nice.
But you must agree that you just found a pearl in the mud that is reskins.
The tf2 look is visually appealing, but it's left you with some rather annoying navigation limitations.
Limited top tabs, no sidebar, no good way of doing categories... This is going to be annoying to navigate once you start getting a large amount of content.
Also, vertical lists are much more visually appealing and useful for navigation than rows of thumbnails. While the rows solution allows larger thumbnails, it's easy to overlook a specific item (Anyone who's tried looking for a file in a long icon view list has probably had this happen to them at least once).
Vertical lists also allow you to present some of the textual content without rolling over the image. This is incredibly useful in cases where a mod might not have an obvious visual impact (Such as HWM fixes)
there are two ways to fix the navigation issue:
- Add a sidebar
- Use a large, robust rollover menu for the tabs (For an example, see http://ocremix.org/ )

That's damn nice. Best sniper reskin I've seen so far.

He is the oyster, never failing to create pearls. Others are like... fish taking shits or something I dunno.

Very helpful feedback. Here's a solution I think should satisfy:
- search bar (for finding specific files)
- sidebar for categorizing (I'll need help coming up with what goes in here)
- text will be shown on every thumbnail... difficult to explain, so I'll just show you the design I'm going for here: https://buildinternet.s3.amazonaws.com/live-tutorials/sliding-boxes/index.htm ... check out the second box
---
Wait, scratch the first two; I'll do a larger rollover menu for the "gallery" tab, which will include a search bar and categories. Now, the question is, what categories would you like to sort by?

Is there anywhere I can download that skin? It looks awesome.
