After some thought, and with respect to Valve, the idler2 is no longer available.
Looks interesting, nice work VoiDeD !
You haven't been caught because a mass of people aren't using it like the idler. But good idea none the less.
I'm just going to get my hats the fair way: to play the game.

I've gotten two hats this way, it's the best way.

Good luck with that Admiral No-Hats.
Good luck with that Admiral No-Hats.
I have 4 Admiral dumbshit. 2 Real ones, Gibbus, and Bills Hat. I probably would have more, but i've been playing Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 demo for awhile.
COLONEL DOUCHEBAG
You see I can use terms with insults too.
Though directed at no one, thus making me a fool.
Rate me gaybow or the paint thing
HELL YEAH let's shit up the first page with irrelevant morality banter about how it's a sin to use idlers.
It runs with the regular 'ol server-client architecture. You start a server through a command line param, and provide your IP to any clients willing to join it. The "distributed" bit is just hype speak.
I am a complete moron and idiot and this post should be ignored.
I would love to help but I'm too much of a coward.
<VoiDeD> it's a server and client what is there to explain
<Spacetech> but its a custom coded server and client
<Spacetech> that uses open steam works
<Spacetech> thats appid is 440
<Spacetech> so you get items
<Spacetech> go
<VoiDeD> post that
<VoiDeD> i'm lazy
Chat log.
If this gets big, Valve will notice it and pull another Halo stunt. Don't do this.
Are useless, decorative hats in a video game really worth all the effort you guys are going through to design and program this?
Moreover:
Why do we think this design is secure? We've been using it to varying degrees for the past 3 weeks with no consequence.
People used the original idler for months with no consequence. This proves nothing.
Are useless, decorative hats in a video game really worth all the effort you guys are going through to design and program this?
It's a cool test. Sticking it to the man, etc.
If this gets big, Valve will notice it and pull another Halo stunt. Don't do this.
As of now it's now illegal to host your own server because of this idling program
It's a cool test. Sticking it to the man, etc.
What man? The only thing all of you achieve with this is another halocaust and more flaming/whinning/crying...
Seriously, why the hell do you want hats more then you want to play? I cant fucking understand why people go as far as to risk their accounts just for some bs...
Idler server is now running, anyone that's willing to test: irc.gamesurge.net / #opensteamworks. Details are in the channel topic.

So long as the game is open you are in fact playing it.
The matter of whether you're moving or not does not phase me.
[editline]08:39PM[/editline]
Also I got my good hat in-game and still have it.
I don't give a shit so long as my fancy feathery Fedora is in my Inventory.
hope it succeeds, then I might get a halo for not joining it ;)

We get the fucking point Neo.

You don't like "cheating"
Just to let everyone know: You can run your own server instances. You can connect to yourself. Regular tf2 clients will just drop (fail after 4 retries). There's no way valve would be able to detect it, except for trying to connect to each server with a regular tf2 client and then an idler client for EVERY SERVER RUNNING. Hell, tf2 can't even see the servers in the server browser.
don't reply just to say how much you hate idling you idiots, that's not what this thread is for
Interesting idea, I've got to say.
I couldn't be assed with idling for myself, but good luck nonetheless!

You don't like "cheating"
Uhh what?
What exactly are you referring to?
The fact you point out at every chance that you hate people exploiting VALVe's fuckups.
[editline]09:04PM[/editline]
The drop system, the mapping glitches.
[editline]09:04PM[/editline]
The achievement gains.
HELL I JUST GOT ONE IN TF2 TODAY BECAUSE OF A GLITCH WITH THE BOMBCART.
No you're dumb, I idled myself with V1. That's why I don't have a Halo, duh.
The drop system
what
the mapping glitches.
if you're referring to that screenshot of me exploiting on koth_sawmill then I think you'll find I was enjoying that map glitch
The achievement gains.
no i hate achievement farmers
Then I suggest you not say it in a way to make me think you have a Halo.
And I meant the exploit where if you jump in with the bombcart and change teams after the new round starts, you keep pushing the cart and getting points.
[editline]09:10PM[/editline]
And you keep getting all pissy at people jumping out of areas in the L4D survival Maps.
And how do we know Valve won't do the same thing if they DO detect this?
We don't. If you don't want to risk your items, don't use it.
