TF2 crashes whenever I connect or am retrieving server info

So, a couple days back I changed to dx8 mode to try and stop some aggravating flickering that seems to only happen with dx9. Ever since I changed, when I try to connect to a server, or do connect to the server, this happens:

Every time, and I'd like to fix this, because I'd rather my 20 dollars not go to waste on some game that doesn't work.

Um, uninstall tf2, then go to then delete the tf2 folder, (back up your maps if you want to keep em) then reinstall, if that does not work verify the game cache, if that also does not work, upgrade your pc.

This happened to me too on my old machine. An upgrade fixed it.

For me it fixed itself on one of the updates. I guess it was some mod.

So an upgrade ought to do the trick, eh? Well, guess I better start saving up....

What was the launch option you used, exactly? If it was -dxlevel, A) was there a space between it and the number you set it to?, and B) Was it two digits long?
