• TF2 Quake Effects Beta (Unfinished release)
    29 replies, posted
Long time back I posted about a Quake-style effect TF2 mod that would compliment the TF2 Oldschool pack. The mod broke due to updates and it got shelved and forgotten for a long time until I dug it up on a backup. Ive decided to release it and all the working files I could find in its current state. I'm not asking for anyone to finish it, but if that's what you want to do, go ahead as long as you credit me. Even though most of the PCF files probably wont work ingame (due to those updates) you can still view them in the particle editor. WINNER FUCKING WINNER RATINGS EVERYWHERE
Neat
looks very sexy.
very cool dude. i love this whole oldschool tf2 thing
looks way too cluttered! even with just the few players you had at the first stage of dustbowl, it became a big mess of visuals with the rockets going around - all of the sudden it became next to impossible to spot enemies and know what's happening. it's a great idea and the particles are cool - i can see people who use the oldschool pack using this just for the sake of consistency, but it doesn't seem all that practical. just my thoughts!
OOoooh very nice. Will there be unusual effects ever? Or does this Old School pack not condone hats.
Is there an Oldschool Original yet? Because the video should have been made with that, man. Regardless, this looks awesome, and I can't wait to get my hands on it
Don't mean to sound assish or anything, but, why do people always make the act of Valve changing/updating pcfs sound like some great tragic project stopper/setback?
Thanks for reminding me Team Fortress 64. I need to download it again.
Don't mean to sound assish or anything, but, why do people always make the act of Valve changing/updating pcfs sound like some great tragic project stopper/setback?
That's because you have to re-do everything in the new updated PCFs. Another thing is for a game that updates quite often, you have to constantly maintain and update the mod after each game update. In late 2010 when I made this, life got real busy for me and I didn't have the time to keep this up, and the unusual effects were just added partway through working on this which added a ton more work. It became more of a chore to work on so I lost interest, and I later moved on to other stuff like modelling/mdl edits. Now, a while ago I found out about this handy program called VIDE that could possibly be used to patch together old particle systems to the newest PCFs, but I never got around to testing it ( I lost this whole project after a HDD crash and switching computers during that time).
but it doesn't seem all that practical.
Impractical mods were my specialty :v:

And if need be, start looking at any new systems that were added. By this point pre-existing mass-system pcfs are only updated like twice a year. As any new particles will probably just be added into a new file. I don't see the need to start from scrach.
This looks amazing!

Looks fantastic, good job!
-snip- Nvm
I tried it and it still works like a charm, The only issue is the Vaccinator effects.
http://www.mediafire.com/?400xil5sucizx3n Here is the fixed version. If there is any other missing particles tell me. Damn automerge.
I've been using this pack for a few days now. I love it!

Tried to open the explosion.pcf and the rockettrail.pcf files to fix it but all I got was this error: Anyone know any fixes for it?
-snip wrong thread sorry- :(
You know you can just copy paste particles between files in the editor, right? You just have to use the menu bar.
yes they were
Brings new meaning to "puff & sting".
Can you Fix the unusual effects? Cause when ever i go to play medic whit my unusual on, my game crashes... :L (And yes, i know that this is beta)
Dude, if you could and have the time, could you make some Quake reskins for stock weps? The Grenade Launcher Reskin - The Demoriginal? Minigun reskin (ultra nailgun) Scattergun Reskin (d-barrel shotgun) and others!
I should've said this a while ago, but... with these effects, the Pyroland versions of the effects disappear, so there's no explosions or Flare Gun trails.
quake isn't pixel sprite art. i like the sounds tho.
this isn't quite "quake effects". Mildly disappointing, the medigun beam is abysmal. The only effect I kept was the blood ones.
