Well it took me a couple of months, but I finally finished my third installment of my TF2 Soldier tutorial series which focuses on all of the Soldier items that have come out this year. Part 3D Past installments: Part One Part Deux Anything I really have to say about the video can be found in the YouTube description. If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to post them.
Maining soldier with 3X more playtime than my second played class. Started really playing it after I saw the first part of this guide, and some other vids, a long time ago. Thanks !
Watching part one now, this is brilliant.
Venture Brothers music :buddy: Your a pro juggler too.
Pretty outstanding, you obviously know your stuff.
'The ability to preform aerials is what often separates decent soldiers from good soldiers.' Wrong. For example I see errors in some of the gameplay which when faced against actual good people doesn't really work, for this reason game sense separates the men from the boys. Also, don't suggest jump maps and training maps to get better, it's nothing like the real thing. Trying the stuff you tell them in the video on a pub is a lot better or even DM servers, on DM server I can find myself dueling top continent players but it is quite easy to duel him, due to aim not being the biggest factor of being good in TF2. In DM it is all about aim essentially but in a real game of TF2 it is mainly game sense and thats why these top players will shine in a match. Ppl tht rte dum r bad @ tF2.
RJD2. Why have I never heard of it before. Amazing. Good tips video as well.
Doesn't matter how much I practice, I will never be able to shoot people in the air. I pop them up, then shoot them where they are landing.
It sounds like you guys are liking the videos. That's good to hear.
'The ability to preform aerials is what often separates decent soldiers from good soldiers.' Wrong. The reason I've never mentioned game sense in any of the videos is that it's something you can't teach. How am I going to tell people to "act smarter in any given situation"? The closest I can do to that is to tell them to just play the class more, which I do at the end of every video. I still maintain that jump maps and training maps are the best place to start for Soldiers. My ability to rocket jump well all sprouted from me messing around in a jump server one week when I had too much free time. It's true that the exact jumps don't apply to jumps in real games, but it's the place where I first learned how to airstrafe, speedpogo and walljump. And training maps are a valid substitute for Soldiers who are just starting out: it's easier for someone to go shooting people -> juggling people who don't move -> juggling people who do move, than it is to skip the middle step.
I forgot to say that it was a good video too! I guess I accept your point on the jump maps due to them being sometimes hard and requiring good rocket jumping skills that can transfer into pub play, but for example roll outs from spawn can only be practiced on the map itself. Also best soldier tip: stay calm.
I don't know why I watched the third one, I hate the Polycount pack :v: Nonetheless, I thought it was very well done and it encouraged me to watch the first two.
RJD2. Why have I never heard of it before. Amazing. Good tips video as well.
Yeah, RJ is pretty awesome. Go listen to albums "Dead Ringer", "Last time we spoke" and "Colossus". :buddy: Hell, Panda. You're one of the best Soldiers I ever saw. Still, I have no fucking idea how to juggle. Im shooting at enemy's feet and he just stands there like a fucking moron with less HP.

Great video.

I only disagree with the whole "Not facing Sentries while on defense," thing.
Your videos really helped me get into soldier which is now my best class
In the second video, you should correct the thing about headshots (very end of the video). That's untrue. The only weapons that do greater damage on headshots are the Ambassador, Huntsman and Sniper Rifle.

I say that battalion's backup is great with pain train and normal rocket launcher when you have teammates nearby
Once again very informative, even though I don't play soldier all that much it's good knowing the classes you're working with and against.
Holy damn after watching this I got really better as soldier :buddy:
I've only legitimately airshot one person ever. I like the Black Box because I rarely get healed by medics because they always have some Heavy or Demoman to suck on. So the +15 HP boost is valuable for me.
Even tough im a decent soldier i can't airshot more than once on the same guy, and i kinda disagree about the black box, it always save me from W+M1 pyros or when im at a really low health.
For some reason the Soldier is the class I'm the best at by far but I play it much less than others.
IMO it's harder to Airshot with demoman.
IMO it's harder to Airshot with demoman.
This.I only air-shoted as a Demoman once, and god dammit i felt so good for doing it.
I got a flairshot once as a pyro. Flamed a soldier, reflected his rocket which sent him flying, hit him in mid flight with a flare. Sometimes I wish I'd record myself so I could make silly videos of my failures and successes.
I'm okay with popping people into the air; bringing them down is where I goof up a lot. I have to go shotty if I want to air-shot someone. These are great videos, though. Makes me want to get practicing Soldier again.
That was really good, but I disagree with training maps and the "never use gunboats ever"
