This was posted in Tuesday's update thread. I'm re-posting it because I'm interested in hearing whether or not other people think that the Engineer will be included in this update.
The clues are indeed there... let's hope that we're not just imagining the Engineer Update will come with this one. By the way, I assume the water ring on the first paper was actually left by the Engineer's (Blue Streak) beer... the various smudges and tears on the paper could be a way of implying that the Engineer is hard at work over the issue, and is poring over the news releases while he tries to rectify the situation.
Then again, all that is bullshit. The real reason I personally believe that the Engineer will be incorporated into the update is because it makes sense from a gameplay perspective. The Engineer update, standing alone, would be a million times worse than the one we are faced with now. Why? It's worse than chaotic, giblet-inducing warfare, it's trench warfare. My point being, there will be sentries around every corner, in every known nook, every conceivable cranny, craftily constructed concurr-... (*ahem*) My point being everyone and their mother will be playing Engineer, meaning that no one's going anywhere, no one's doing anything, no one's having fun. It would be an awful idea to institute the Engineer update on its own.
Remember folks, the Engineer solves practical problems: "How am I going to stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer... use a gun. And if that don't work... use more gun."
Unless Valve figures out a way to release the Engineer Update (for example, the Engineer is given offensive or anti-building options) without these problems arising, this is the most logical possibility. The Soldier and Demoman, the two of the definitive anti-sentry classes, could easily offset the horrors of a separate Engineer Update.
(Also, the Engineer could really do with a new unlock at this point. The Direct Hit looks like it could really take them down a peg if nothing is done to counteract it.)
[DISCLAIMER: This is bullshit.]
I was thinking of this when reading over old updates. It could be like how the spy suddenly came into the sniper update.
The weapons released so far haven't been aimed specifically at engineer.
It's been a sword and a weak rocket launcher.
Right now, I'd be more afraid of the default weapons.
ur all dum. its teh spai updat in dizguize
omg guiz the update is a cake is a lie
Seriously though, stop making jokes like that.

The Engineer update would not be intended to counteract any specific weapons or new features implemented in this update; it would attempt to fix general problems that the Engineer faces. I don't really know any, because I don't play Engineer... at all. :v:
"Will 'Science' end the war?"
Updating 3 classes at once must be really hard.
I think ultimately it's too late in the week with a Thursday deadline looming for an Engi update. Plus they've written it in stone for Thursday on the Steam News Feed, so there's no going back now.
EDIT: I also think science relates to Crafting more than the Engi.
They surprised the hell out of us with the spy update, why wouldn't they do it again?
I think not,
Updating 3 classes at once must be really hard.
Yes. To be honest, they'd finish with a bang if this was the last class update. They have had plenty of time though; I imagine they've been working on this update on the side pre-L4D2.

That's discouraging. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise us tomorrow?
Maybe they'll surprise us today, we haven't been informed of anything yet and it seems like today should be an information blowout considering that we still need 2 new soldier weapons unveiled and the demo's new primary. I'm fairly certain there will be new community maps at least also, so why wouldn't Valve pull something huge at the last minute? If there's one thing they're great at, it's surprising everyone.

Weak?
It's stronger at direct hits so it will be more usefull when ubered

There's still 2 more 'newspapers' to see. The last day will be everything wrapped into one neat package.
I'm calling it: Community Maps, Achievements today. MAYBE a new 'Meet The' video.

Uber is for classes with RUINOUSLY DESTRUCTIVE capabilities. If you rush in there with a precision weapon while your aim is being shat upon by sentries, airblasts and stickies (oh my,) you'll be USELESS. You're going to need a weapon that deals lots of damage with imprecision, like the Demo's pipebombs and stickies.

That'll make some tough times for the Engies.

Did you not notice the fucking scope on the side? I think the Solly will have the ability to zoom in like the Sniper's rifle. The blast radius reduction means you HAVE to aim precisely, there's a reason they call it "The Direct Hit". Also, 80% faster rockets and 25% more damage, these things will do damage quick and fast, making it an optimal tool for taking out sentries.
I think the Engineer update will come with updates to crafting, addition of trading, more hats, domination sounds for the Medic, Pyro, and Heavy, and a new gamemode.
He WILL get in this update, probably (and surely) not by getting items, but by receiving a small buff or something to resist all the incoming demolition.
Something comparable to the Teleporter/Dispenser buff one year ago
I think the Engineer update will come with updates to crafting, addition of trading, more hats, domination sounds for the Medic, Pyro, and Heavy, and a new gamemode.
Eh... minus the domination sounds for the Pyro. Unless they finally reveal the Pyro's face.

Or maybe they do add the sounds to give clues.

Most engineers don't leave their sentries out in the open. The majority of destroyed sentries happens when the soldier hits the ground around the sentry while staying out of the field of view of said sentry. For this reason, most Engineers will be better off.
probably (and surely)
Uhm..? Probably, implying uncertainty and surely, implying absolute certainty?
My point being everyone and their mother will be playing Engineer, meaning that no one's going anywhere, no one's doing anything, no one's having fun. It would be an awful idea to institute the Engineer update on its own.
Who says the Engineer's new weapons will all involve camping/building at your own base..?
I could see some offensive things, like some kind of barrier to block projectiles, jump-pads.. The buildings are endless.
Eh... minus the domination sounds for the Pyro. Unless they finally reveal the Pyro's face.
Well they could just add more generic sounds for the Pyro when it dominates someone. not class-specific lines.
The classic Rocket Launcher is quite good at taking out a lot of buildings for a reason: the travel speed of the rockets. You can fire them all at once, and get behind cover and reloading immediately, and the buildings will still not be damaged if you were far enough.
It's kind of hard to explain, but it's really useful
Or maybe they do add the sounds to give clues.
I just don't see how it could work :/ The only one I can think of is the Pyro imitating the Heavy's machine gun when it runs out of ammo and then them laughing afterwards.

There are also achievements to be earned, that was the main reason for that argument. Even if many of the Engineer's decide to operate as offensive Engineers, you're still going to end up getting shot at and knocked about. Unlocks will come more slowly as well, meaning that... oh wait, people achievement farm; I almost forgot about that.
Either way, I didn't imply that the sentries are going to be crammed into bases. If there's anything I hate, it's a surprise sentry.

Jump pads would be wonderful.
Updating 3 classes at once must be really hard.
Well, they've probably been working on it for about 4 months, maybe they decided to make a huge update and thus putting more work into it

You're a dumbass. The entire reason for the fucking splash damage is to kill the ENGINEER, not his Goddamned sentry. That's why Soldiers are the best choice for the Kritz when trying to kill sentries, because all it takes is one crit rocket and the sentry's fucked, regardless of whether that Soldier killed it or not.
And, let's be serious, how often do sentry nests have enough shit guarding it that you can't get your aim back near-instantly? I don't know about you, but when I get airblasted back as a Soldier I can adjust my aim back pretty quickly, especially when I don't have to worry about the damage the Pyro's doing. The sentry knockback, if you've got a coward for a Medic, just helps that since it keeps you steady in the air longer.
