Think of it this way.
The Wrangler has a pause when it goes to manual, a Pyro with the Homewrecker could use that time to ambush it, and with the Southern Hospitality Wrench which makes them weaker to fire. It may not much You could go blazing in with the flamethrower but the Homewrecker does more damage in that time. May be not that useful but still something to make it more useful, still better helping an Engy though.
Well too bad everyone probably crafted their homewreckers trying to get a gold wrench. Now that they're actually useful, I bet very few people have them anymore.

I still have mine, it became good after the sapper buff.

More time consuming as well, but the homewrecker will deal in one hit with this little trick.
I have a homewrecker, i don't really like it though. Axtinguisher is best pyro melee if you remember to use it.

Honestly don't get any use out of the 'sting anymore.
In any situation where axtinguishing would work, so would the shotgun or continued flaming. I use the axe, or if there's lots of engineers on my team, the homewrecker.
The satisfaction one recieves from sneaking up behind someone with the axe is just infinitely more satisfying than flaming them from behind.
