I'd like to see Valve slip some secret weapons/hats into TF2 at some point.

While these updates are a lot of fun to follow, imagine hopping on TF2 one afternoon, and finding something like "THE DEMON KILLER 2000.5". The entire game is stunned, "what the fuck is it?!", they ask. You equip your newly found weapon, then notice your penis has TRIPLED IN SIZE. Holy shit, the entire game wants your cock. You become a GOD.
Not really. But wouldn't it be awesome to find a random new weapon or hat in-game that nobody's heard of? Do you guys think that Valve might start doing that after all the characters are updated, or are we going to have something like "Medic Update V2" in a few months? OR BOTH?!
Be worth it just because everyone'd be like.
'Lol photoshop, you're bullshitting'
Then a week later when VALVe admits it you get to be :smug:
That would be cool, but I never get hats so it wouldn't matter to me. All I get is ubersaws, I have 7
Class update V2 would be great, Pyro really needs another flamethrower other than the shitty BB.
Probably they will once they perfect the drop system.

One problem with this is how could Valve do it without people knowing? They would have to update the game. As soon as it updates, people are going to swarm over the changes. Unless they mask each new weapon/hat update as a set of bug fixes, they're going to be found out and the majority of the community is going to know about them a few hours after the update is gone. You're really betting on the fact that people aren't going to dig through the gcf and make sure Valve didn't pull a fast one.
Wouldn't people see it in the GCF's?
We didn't see the Valve rocket launcher.
I'm guessing they'll do this by adding new blueprints every time they do a bug update
We didn't see the Valve rocket launcher.
While I'm not entirely sure this is a correct explanation, I'd believe that that's because there isn't anything needed clientside to create the Valve weapons. We already have the tiers of weapons (normal, uncommon, community, and dev) in the files, along with the associated properties (health on hit, etc.). All Valve needed to do was scrape those together. The Valve RL is not a new model, nor a new skin, so they probably created a weapon that used the existing files, gave it to themselves, and so you saw it equipped on them when you were killed because you were getting the info from their client, not the server.
But if that were the case anyone could make their own weapons...

then it'll never come
My friend(Mozgoed) Idles all day and night in tf2,he has about 1,5-2k hours, and 100-200 hours weekly.
He found two valve flamethrowers, but they got deleted instantly.
Also he found 1 valve rocket launcher.
Its possible to find valve guns, but you need to be crazy to let your pc stay up day and night for a month, and even more.
I had links to the pics, but I don't have the anymore, I was on vista when he show'd me them,i will post them later if i find them.

Nice Troll.
considering we can see every weapon in the gfc files, this won't happen
you're an awful liar
It happened.
he gave me three fucking pics of it, and no it wasn't photoshoped, you could see the background really well.
Just that I don't have the links for the pics, argh.
His backpack: http://www.tf2items.com/id/F6
You can see clearly hes a idler...
2nd page is full of hats and dupes
Then upload them that is if you downloaded them.
It happened in August 2009,I was still using vista that time, how i could have them,he has them.
He's afk now(IDLING).
I'm still asking him hurr.
Steam cloud bugs still happen, and its because of this shitty drop system.
The more you play, the more you get.
The problem with this kind of idea, while really cool, is that Valve can't hide anything from us in terms of items. All items are stored in items.ctx and all text is stored in tf_english.txt, both of which I can go and crack open in a second. In order to have an item with a new model or new name, they need to add it to items.ctx, where everyone can see it. We'd be able to pick up on it from just tf_english.txt, too.
As for the "Valve" weapons, they were a bit clever with those. What they did was they developed a system where an item's information in its entirety is stored server-side. That means its name, its model, what type it is, what class holds it, its attributes, etc. They ninja'd in a single string into tf_english: "Valve". So, without anybody knowing what "Valve" meant, they created weapons for themselves that use default models and stuck "Valve" and a weapon name together.
Of course, they could do something like that for us, but that'd be kind of boring. All weapons would have to use default models and existing attributes to stay hidden from us until somebody finds it.
Like they COULDN'T make non-accessible files to hide new stuff in.
Valve flamethrower?
valve rocket launcher?
lolwut?
You mean the lv 100 items?
I have one, lv 100 dead ringer.
http://www.tf2items.com/id/BadAssFreakinOverlord
And no i don't idle. I used to play alot of tf2 after the sniper vs spy update.
And now I play alot of l4d and l4d2.
And ya as cool as it would be to sneak things into the game, as half the people in this thread have said, it would be caught instantly.
Lv 91 fists ftw!

No you dumbass, we don't.
Level 100 items are exactly the same as level 1 ones. Valve weapons were specifically modified versions of classic weapons which were extremely overpowered and used by Valve members to test out specific stats AND/OR troll the community.

Well excuuuse me princess, i didn't know.
Thanks for clarification.

Valve has never been one to lock the community out of its files. It would certainly be a Valve first.
They said Item Crafting will be introduced, so they will start dropping random blueprints for weapons you might not have heard of.
Kind of like Fallout 3.
People's TF2 would update in steam then they bombard valve with emails, it'd be to much for valve

They could sneak it in with an update. But people would scour the files.
