• Does TF2 play well with Intel HD Graphics?

I need to know this because I don't have any fancy ATI or Radeon graphics cards
If you turn all settings down to low and play at a reduced resolution, probably. Even on an older game like that, Intel's integrated graphics chips really struggle when it comes to gaming. You should save up for a nice, cheap GTX 750 Ti and that'll easily run TF2 at medium/high settings without a hitch.

You also might want to look into Chris' FPS configs if the game still doesn't run well with the default low settings.

Medium/high is not an accurate description. And yeah, the 750 Ti is cheap as hell for how good it is.

I have a 760 GTX and do regularly dip into the 70-80 range in very crowded maps/areas, also in 1080p with max settings plus 4x MSAA. Have a Core i5 at 3,3 GHz. Sure, it's well above 100 most of the time, but still... So Franbo, TF2 should also run much more smoothly if you have a relatively modern CPU with a high clock rate, 3+ GHz.
With Intel HD graphics, I'm running at ~200 FPS in TF2 with basic settings turned to max and ~250 FPS when I add 500MB of high-quality textures, high-poly models, revamped animations, boosted HDR settings. It's like my computer treats old games as an insult and punishes me with a FPS penalty.
Use maxframes, you'll be fine I got between 15-30 frames using maxframes on an intel-integrated 2009 computer.
Use maxframes, you'll be fine I got between 15-30 frames using maxframes on an intel-integrated 2009 computer.
Oh, and I was wondering if there was an option for this. Thank you!
Use maxframes, you'll be fine I got between 15-30 frames using maxframes on an intel-integrated 2009 computer.
Aren't the max frames and high frames configs the same? And I HATE how fucking ugly they both look anyway, I don't care very much about my framerate despite the 2.5 GBs of mods I have installed. I don't even lag badly with my huge custom folder and some graphics settings higher than they should
If you have this, you'll be fine.
Here's some info: My PC is an Acer Aspire X3950 with a 4.6 Windows Experience rating, an Intel Core i3 CPU 550 @ 3.20 GHZ and 3.00 GB Ram on a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

If I run TF2 with low settings (on settings menu) and mat_phong 0, could anyone estimate how much FPS I would get?
Not really, a lot of problems in my experience, especially micro stuttering and random graphical glitches on i7 4770's HD 4600.
This is why the game should be more optimized.
This is why the game should be more optimized.
TF2 is incredibly optimized, especially by today's standards where devs really don't care about stuff like that anymore. The problem is that Intel's integrated graphics chips are just too subpar for feasible, reliable gaming at playable framerates. Even those blazingly hot, power-hungry AMD APUs surpass it when it comes to integrated graphics processors.
This is why the game should be more optimized.
What are you talking about? The Source Engine is optimized for exactly what Valve intended it to be: For BSP based maps.
I used to play team fortress 2 on an older Asus transformer tablet that had windows 8. It had a Intel HD inside it and it could just about play tf2 at s comfortable level. Its not perfect but it was very playable.
I do have more fps with my Intel HD 4000 then my geforce 630 M :|
Lots of mixed answers here. Eh, I'll put it on very low settings and give it a try. I hate being a "filthy console peasant" after all.
Also ,I'm running at arround 70 fps on my Intel Hd 4000, all the setting on max.
Strangely, Intel HD 5000 can run emulated GAMECUBE games at 60 fps. (MacBook Air, 1.7 GHz i5 :v:) You're fine.
Here, use This to make your tf2 run alot better.

Them I remembered that Wind Waker was the literal nightmare of all emulation.

Them I remembered that Wind Waker was the literal nightmare of all emulation.
That and emulation is very graphics light. Practically everything is done through the processor. As for the thread at hand, I had a friend that played TF2 on his low end laptop from 5 years ago fairly well, so as long as yours is from around then or newer I'd think you'd be fine.
I was playing tf2 on an old mac mini a few years ago that had intel graphics and as long as you don't turn on antialiasing you should be fine :v:
UPDATE: I gave it a try on the low settings and it ran quite smoothly, but for some reason, it ran terribly on outdoor maps (like dustbowl)
As someone who games with an Intel HD Graphics card (no series, just Intel HD Graphics), I can say that you need to find a damn fine .cfg file for exponential FPS count.
op, what laptop do you have?
