• Fuckin' competitive players, how do they work?

A while back, I was playing Payload and a bunch of Complexity (competitive TF2 team) players came in and just started dominating everything. I say dominating because their cart never stopped moving, any threat was immediately dispatched and left the other team no chance. I added them on SF. They're nice guys, and all, but... Holy shit. When they say TF2 is a career to them, they mean it. They've actually been perma'd from Ego servers (among countless others) because they were playing too well. I frequently see them go for 72+ hours at a time playing TF2, honing their skills. I simply don't understand how you can take a game like this so seriously. Discuss, or, if you want a question answered by one, put it here.
They work because people like to win. It's summer, a lot of people have summer vacation, I can't see them doing that too often during a school year though.
You can take this game so seriously because this is one of the tightest multiplayer games out there. I don't understand people who get so absurdly serious about games, but I do understand why they would choose this particular game to do so.

Well then, the solution is simple. Live in your parents' basement playing games all day with the desire to win every match.
what are you talking about
Competitive players work by staying up all night in their parents' basements.
I think I'd actually rather be just ok at the game than be so good that I have no competition outside of tournaments and scrims. It might be fun to completely decimate the enemy team, but after a while it would get kind of sad.
They play as much as you guys, but its all competitive. Most of them dont take it that seriously, its just a different style of gameplay.
I can honestly say that I'd really like to be part of something like that. But my internet isn't reliable. One hour my ping is 100 ish, the next hour, 2000. I can't even fucking MOVE sometimes.
How did a bunch of them all join and get on the same team, you make it sound like it was almost instantly.
Carnage told me he plays singleplayer against bots on hard with 3X timescale to work on his reaction holy fuck
Carnage told me he plays singleplayer against bots on hard with 3X timescale to work on his reaction holy fuck
That sounds amazing.
Carnage told me he plays singleplayer against bots on hard with 3X timescale to work on his reaction holy fuck
Hard mode: blindfolded.
Their overall goal is to go to lans and win money so of course they are going to be super serious about it. [editline]12:07PM[/editline]
Carnage told me he plays singleplayer against bots on hard with 3X timescale to work on his reaction holy fuck
guys are insane
Being in tournaments would be cool (if i was THAT good).

Even if you suck, you can play Medic and just do what people say, and if you're a soldier, people won't notice if you're bad because they'll have other things on their mind. If you're a demo and you're bad, people might get upset.
Most comp TF2 players have had years of experience playing FPS games. I know that a lot of the pro soldiers in comp TF2 played a lot of Quake III and TFC and all what they did was airshot stuff left and right no matter how close or far the target is. But this is literally like playing for a decade.
Carnage told me he plays singleplayer against bots on hard with 3X timescale to work on his reaction holy fuck
Fucking hell, I'm gonna do that. Ramp up from 1.5X and go higher until I have the reflexes of a killing machine :psylon:
Carnage is pretty cool guy, and he never misses with any class.
My only experiences with competitive TF2 have been largely negative. I once got talked into doing a skirmish match (6v6) by one of my friends, and it sucked. It REALLY SUCKED. First of all, you can only play as one of four classes: Scout, Soldier, Demoman, or Medic. Now, practically every unlockable is "banned" from use, except for the ones that really should be banned. Direct Hit and Equalizer are okay but no Scottish Resistance? It didn't help that they jumped my shit for having the Sandman equipped (game hadn't started yet) and then immediately started using the banned weapons themselves. Then when they beat us they all had their tourneyfag circlejerk where they tell us we're t0t4l n000bz!! From my experience, it's pretty much impossible to find a competitive gamer who isn't a complete asshole.

I don't see how people can take an unserious game seriously.
I once played with pyour funny guy.
Complexity players have always been p. nice to me, /shrug.
I got a group of 3 competitive players on my server once, it was pretty funny. They started to go all commando and dominate shit, then I decided to go scout (The only class I play if I want to dominate the living fuck out of stuff, scattergun - pistol - sandman) and they left saying that I was an adminfag :P
When you're bad at everything else... Time to become a professional video game player. I bet it gets all the chicks.
Team Fortress 2 was not meant to be played seriously.
I've yet to meet a competitive player who isn't a pretty terrible person.
Agreed. The few I have met are so fucking smug all the time.
