I don't know the best place to put this, but I figure since it involved TF2 here would suffice.
A few years ago, I was STEAMREP banned. I don't care to appeal this and accept it, that's fine. However, my friend logged in on his account at my house once and got banned as well for being my alt.
We've both tried numerous times to appeal this off of him, but every time they denied it not believing it.
Is there any way to get him unbanned from STEAMREP? I hate how they can so swiftly give out the mark of shame like that. I mean, it probably works more often than not but I personally have had just bad experiences with it.

I'm banned on steamrep since 2011, and even 4 years later ,they don't want to unban me
Whatever..
It's somewhat impossible to leave a ban.
welcome to facepunch. we usually dont open new threads for these issues, as you can simply post it on the general chat thread and get as much if not more support there.
We can only detects alts using the IP, and there is no "steam id to ip resolver", so i don't think it's possible.
Or it's really strange.
He hasn't logged in at my house in a while now. Well, actually he may have once but I'm not quite certain if he went on STEAM. Other than that, it's been a couple of years.
Also, why would we both own the same games like Skyrim? Now that'd just be silly.
I've learned to basically not question them, even with enough evidence they'll still reject your appeal.
I've tried to help get people untagged who were unfairly tagged and even with being an affiliate admin saying this stuff is valid they still ignored it. So yeah, don't see it getting removed anytime soon.
i suspect your "i didn't even wanted to appeal" wont help much towards your friend though.

I don't say it's your alt, but they CAN'T detect if you log from the same PC (well, if you connect to steamrep using "login with steam" on the same IP with the 2 accounts, they may know its your alt but i don't think there is an AUTO ban thing)
That's pretty strange, did they say this account was your alt ?
Eh, SteamREP also has an autoban for certain items (which were scammed at one point) that are still in circulation. For instance, some unusual team captain is out there and if you get it you get banned.
He was banned for being my alt. A server would have to have reported that we connected from the same IP or something.
i honestly think that steamrep's spycrabbing policy is retarded. nobody loses anything, ditching spycrabs is just a dick move. you're putting people in the same basket as people who steal upwards of 100$ in pixels as the ones who are just dishonest.
Spycrabbing was silly.
I did it for a buds and lost, then left. I did contact the guy at a later time and gave him buds out of guilt, only to be insulted and told I was reported to SteamRep anyway.
Heh, I didn't even know what that was at the time. Thought it was a joke.

Is there a SteamREP module for tf2 or source games ?
I don't think sending tons of IP to a master server is really legal...
EDIT : holy shit nyugga http://steamrep.com/plugin.php
Yeah I was labelled as a Scammer on Steamrep thanks to former TF2 Outpost admin Suttles (who posts here occasionally). Funny story actually, happened back when I was having troubles with Facepunch and didn't really like this place. Fella named Ern had made a post saying "Tell 404 Ernest Cockworthington IV hates him", so to screw with people (as they were watching me), I changed my name to "Ernest Cockworthington IV".
Shortly after, Suttles went "aha" and banned me for impersonation on TF2Outpost which got me labelled as a Scammer on Steamrep. Needless to say it was complete bullshit and just Suttles trying to impress everyone here because back then I didn't like Facepunch and Facepunch didn't like me (some people still don't like me, and we call those people a-holes). I couldn't appeal though, due to a year long community ban (having Steam name set to "FuckMaxOfS2D" because reasons) so I just didn't appeal it.
Needless to say, when I finally got uncommunity banned I appealed and HelenAngel quickly responded stating she saw it all go down and removed the Scammer tag. It made me laugh though because Suttles acted like he "got me" and was preventing me from using TF2Outpost (when in fact I hadn't used TF2Outpost at the time in over 2 months). It pissed me off because SteamRep could've just removed the tag right off the bat after seeing it was a complete crock of shit and that I didn't do any trading whilst under the name (plus I'm not the only 404: User Not Found, other people use a similar name on Steam).

All the Steamrep plugin does is check their database when a player connects and if the player comes back as a scammer, the owner has the choice of choosing whether to kick, ban, or add a [SCAMMER] tag to the player when the player joins.
It also adds in [TRADE BANNED] tags for those who are trade banned, and you can also kick/ban tradebanned people. Nothing illegal in this plugin afaik.

Yeah. My favorite thing is when I get booted from a non-trading related server to free up a slot because I am a reported scammer.

I've got the SteamRep plugin, but I've got it set up to not boot people, and it allows in reported scammers, but it adds [SCAMMER] to the name as kind of a warning for the players on my server. Being a trade server, the players know that if they choose to trade with a labelled scammer, they're taking the risk.
It's up to the individual server owner to choose how they want to use the plugin, really.

Psh, it's actually funny when servers only do that. People start going "SCAMMER OMG" and I'm just like hi guys.
Just as an FYI the plugin does seem to send IP addresses of players to their server:
Format(requestStr, sizeof(requestStr), "GET /%s%s%s%s%s%s%s%s HTTP/1.0\r\nHost: %s\r\nConnection: close\r\n\r\n", "id2rep.php?steamID32=",steamid,"&ignore=",excludetags,"&IP=",ip,"&version=",PLUGIN_VERSION,"steamrep.com");
I've done a quick experiment and it doesn't seem to auto-ban players with the same IP address as a known scammer, though. That probably only applies to steamrep.com logins.

Ahh, I did not notice that line of code.....no wait, that IP line maaaay be the IP of the server. I'd need to see the entirety of the function to figure out.

Yeah, it's the client's IP.
decl String:steamid[32];
decl String:requestStr[450];
decl String:excludetags[128];
decl String:ip[17]="";
if(GetConVarInt(g_checkIP) == 1){GetClientIP(client,ip,sizeof(ip));}
GetClientAuthString(client,steamid,sizeof(steamid));
GetConVarString(g_exclude,excludetags,sizeof(excludetags));
Format(requestStr, sizeof(requestStr), "GET /%s%s%s%s%s%s%s%s HTTP/1.0\r\nHost: %s\r\nConnection: close\r\n\r\n", "id2rep.php?steamID32=",steamid,"&ignore=",excludetags,"&IP=",ip,"&version=",PLUGIN_VERSION,"steamrep.com");
SocketSend(socket, requestStr);
Besides, it would be really dumb (so not unlikely for SteamRep :v:) to send the server IP in a GET parameter because you can just look at the origin of the request.
[editline]1st January 2015[/editline]
Taking a closer look at that if statement it's probably only to check if a scammer has joined from that IP before, i.e. auto-banning alts but only on the gameserver.

God I've spent too much time on this, back to actually being productive.
steamrep shouldn't have the amount of power they have tbh. they can stop people from going on servers or trading, even if it was like 5 years ago. you can try to reason but most (not all) people are a-holes who deject it no matter how much evidence you've got.
You can't reason with steamrep unless you get a nice admin who understands your situation. many people i know have been banned for a while now and can't go on many servers because of the plug-in. they act as if they're the trade police but irl they have no acknowledgement from valve and shouldn't be able to do half the things they do.
basically, steam rep sucks and you have a 1 in 1000 chance of getting unbanned
SteamRep? that corrupt piece of shit service? If there's a plugin that kicks players based on their steamrep, that's really fucked up

I have to agree with you on many points you've raised.
SteamRep is just a community-run site, and like any other community-run site, you're bound to get corruption within the ranks. While I did donate to SteamRep (Tier V, $100 :v:) that's only because I personally like SteamRep and what they do for the community.
Sure, they could use a bit of an update in their policies and systems, and maybe be taught to be more understanding in situations such as FlutterRaegs. If I were a SteamRep admin, I'd un-mark the friends account and look into Flutter's situation to see what went on there.
They have the Appeals section for a fuckin' reason, I'm surprised they reject so many appeals.
SteamRep? that corrupt piece of shit service? If there's a plugin that kicks players based on their steamrep, that's really fucked up
There is. SteamRep created it. It has convars to change the function, so instead of kicking/banning a scammer, it'll let the scammer on the server but add a chat tag to their name "[SCAMMER]"
I run the SteamRep plugin on my servers, but I don't kick/ban scammers mainly because I know not everyone is a low life piece of shit. I give second chances. I've had a marked Spycrab scammer come on my server and successfully do some tic-tac-toe betting on our map (interactive tic tac toe board) without any issues. I'd give him a good word if he ever appealed the mark.
Well, I'm not even allowed to appeal personally. That's probably part of the reason my friend can't; the community that I'm marked from no longer exists.
It's impossible to appeal it. They basically just don't care.
Why even bother with steamrep, it's hard to reason with those people.
Well, I'm not even allowed to appeal personally. That's probably part of the reason my friend can't; the community that I'm marked from no longer exists.

If the community no longer exists, the mark should by all rights be removed.
If the community no longer exists, the mark should by all rights be removed.
If the community no longer exists, the mark is permanent. They say you had enough time to appeal. And I did appeal anyway, and was denied, which is why I don't even bother for myself.
I only want to get my friend's tag removed. He did nothing wrong, morally or otherwise.
Do people even use Steamrep.
From what I hear it doesn't do jack shit.
Do people even use Steamrep.

People only use Steamrep to check whether they'll get an unfair ban when trading for an Unusual or not. It's dumb.
