Now that we've all had a few days to unlock and play with the new weapons, how do you guys feel about them?
Personally, I like the Chargin' Targe/Eyelander (for the time being... I've changed my mind before). My only problem would be that the Eyelander becomes a flat-out upgrade after two kills, and that when you're fighting a team with 4+ Demos it gets to the point where it seems like they're coming out of the goddamn walls.
I haven't really used the Scottish Resistance much, but it feels kind of... off. I'll probably figure it out once I use it more, though- the Targe was kind of hard to use at first, too.
The Direct Hit's a pretty good sidegrade. The increased damage is less of a problem than I thought it would be even though it can instakill low-health classes. The decreased splash radius means that it's not good at crowd control, so there's actually a reason to use the regular rocket launcher.
The Buff Banner's actually a lot more useful than I thought. It's not good for aggressive Soldiers and doesn't work too well with the Direct Hit, but it's awesome for BLU (and sometimes RED) on A/D maps, especially Payload. It also makes a pretty sweet companion to an uber.
The Equalizer is extremely useful as an escape weapon. Using it to actually melee someone is risky, but it's great for when you've got to get away and heal. Honestly, it's pretty much a straight upgrade over the shovel.
We really don't need anymore threads about the new weapons. People are just going to bitch and moan about how things need a nerf. I like the weapons the way they are.

May aswell lock the thread right here.

The idea was really more for general opinions/discussion rather than the dozen threads bitching about something specific. While I think some tweaking is probably needed (like always) I don't feel like there's any major problems with the new unlocks.
The sword is fucking bullshit, plain and simple. It undermines the entire idea behind what the Demoman is supposed to be: A defensive, ambushing class. Not an ultra-offensive warrior. Here's what I would have done:
Flak-Gun, Grenade Launcher replacement
-Destroys enemy stickybombs
-Large radius, lots of projectiles, lower damage
-Projectiles bounce off of flat surfaces(depends on velocity)
Explosives Shield/Suit, Melee replacement
--75% explosive damage
-Reduced speed
Scottish Resistance is fine, perfect for the Demo.
Also, alternatively for the soldier:
I-C-U:
-Remote controlled rocket: When fired, camera shifts to the rocket's perspective. Guide it into an enemy or at a turret.
-Gradually loses speed and maneuverability, drops and explodes
-Can be remotely exploded
-One rocket mag, 8 rockets total
-Lower reload speed
And instead of giving the demoman a sword, the Tenth class:
A goddamn Viking
-No ranged weapons
-Raised health
-Reduced speed (Heavy-ish)
+Big fucking battle axe
+Chargin' Targe
+Mutton (healing item)
As the drop system is bugged I haven't played all of them yet
The direct hit is a perfect unlock that more suited to denser maps with corridors rather than open space
The pickaxe is a perfect last ditch weapon when you're about to die, something the shovel was used for but failed
That's it, I have done 4 milestones but only got a jarate and ubersaw along with those unlocks

One of the Demoman's roles is area denial, through sticky traps and grenade spam. However, he's always had a second job: Breaking through (demolishing) enemy defenses. The Targe sacrifices his area denial job to boost his destruction job (the SR is the opposite); the damage resistance and charging ability allow him to literally bust down a defensive front.
The Equalizer is awesome when you get low health and go on a dodging kill spree
allow him to literally bust down a defensive front.
Or go on an offensive killing spree, possibly the most rage-inducing thing in TF2 to date. I mean, even The Sandman wasn't this bad.

It's the same thing, really- the point is that he can get up close and deal a lot of damage fast.
Still, it's very easily countered- the damage reduction only applies to fire and explosives, so if you keep a Scout around he can blast the Demoman while staying out of range.
I've only got the Equalizer so far, but I'm loving it. At less than 25hp you become as fast as the Scout (I even chased one down. :clint:) and it's great for sneaking up on Heavies when you have low health, you can kill a heavy in two hits.
I hate the Eyelander, but that's because I want it so much.
I love each and every one of the new unlocks.
I thought the weapons were nice. But I wonder what those propaganda winners got.
That the new Swordman = Awesomeman.:buddy:
I hate how people bitch about the eyelander, "What the fuck how are we supposed to beat this guy with our ranged weapons!? He's got a sword!"
I'll admit that it is bullshit getting killed in one blow at the end of a charge, But perhaps you could use your strafe key for just a second, than while you're at it why not SHOOT HIM IN THE BACK
I'll admit that it is bullshit getting killed in one blow at the end of a charge, But perhaps you could use your strafe key for just a second, than while you're at it why not SHOOT HIM IN THE BACK
Because he can immediately turn around. As soon as he gets near you, you're in range, so you're already fucked unless he has low health.
Targe+Eyelander demomen are not very good for other than defending, because they are actually vulnerable if people think enough to realize not to use explosives or fire against them.
In a base filled with teammates, a such demo can freely chop attackers to pieces without being shot to death all the time.
This doesn't completely apply because of the fucking huge resistances the Targe gives.
I've been having a ball as a heavy.
They screma at me, I scream at them, they try to chop me, I fill thme with bullets.
Or I punch their tiny faces in.
Hahahaha. Good times.
The Equalizer is just better then the shovel, theres no reason not to have that.
I only have the equalizer due to the stupid milestone glitch, but from what I have seen of the buff banner it should be great fun.
The Equalizer kind of sucks. You'll probably get only one, if not zero kills unless you're a ninja. But I do love the speed boost and ninja'ing a Heavy's medic is priceless.
The Targe rocks. The damage reduction is a lifesaver and charging crits are boss.
The Direct Hit is pretty good if you can aim. The mini-crits on Scoots are hilarious and I always laugh my ass off when I get them.
The Eyelander is sexy. Each kill buffs your health, and after 3, you already made up for the inconvience of lower health. Finally, at a cap of 4, you're healthier than a Soldier (at 210) and as fast as a Pyro.
I have yet to try the Bugle, but free mini-crits for all your pals as well as yourself sounds awesome.
Lastly, the Sco. Res. is quite an improvement over the Sticky Launcher. Sticky Fake-outs end in hilarious results, but wave goodbye to easy sticky jumps and quick detonations.
Oh, and the Gunboats... well, the drop systems fucks me over, so I doubt I'll get those.
All in all, the weapons rock.
The Equalizer is useful when you're on fire.
Because he can immediately turn around. As soon as he gets near you, you're in range, so you're already fucked unless he has low health.
You do know that the Targe only decreases damages from explosion and flame? which mean, ALL class can outbeat a fully-buffed demo by using 1)shotgun, 2)needlegun, 3)melee (risky) or any other non-flame/explosive weapons.
Therefore, eyelander+targe are not OP, not dangerous and definitely don't need a nerf.
Edit: Oh this happened to me at one time, there were me an engineer and a sniper defending when 2 Demo-warriors came charging towards us. Seems like the one that charged me had low health and the other had... full health. But as they charge, he came too close with my buckshot and the sniper earned a headshot.
Who's faster now?
Back on thread, the weapons rock, thanks Valve!
I am scared of Demos now, because of Chargin' Targe.
when i got the equalizer i stopped using everything else
Basically, the Equalizer is very good for running away when you're badly hurt. The only time you should really use your melee weapon as a Soldier is when you're running away anyway, so it's a straight upgrade over the shovel.
I think that Valve messed up when the Spy/Sniper update came out. Before that, all upgrades had given you a new version of the same weapon (Except for the Sandvich, but it's OK if you just upgrade a shotgun). But when they gave totally different weapons and put 2 weapons in the same slot, they messed up the crafting system and made some of the upgrades useless.
Soldier's:
Direct hit:Alot of fun shouldn't one hit the weaker classes though
Bugle: Awesome but takes a little bit long to charge
Equilizer: :iia:
Demo's:
Sco res: It broke so I don't have one :argh:
Targe: :iia:
Eyelander: :wtc: still fun though
The Direct Hit should NOT be able to instakill Medics or even less Engineers, key members of the team.
Bugle: Awesome but takes a little bit long to charge
I thought the same thing at first, but as I used it more I found that sometimes it seems like it charges almost instantly. I think it gives you more charge the more people you hit at once.
Either the Equalizer is going to be made less effective, or the shovel will be made more effective, because right now I just can't see a reason why I'd want to use the shovel.
