I wanted to know if it's possible to make a TF2 server as it was in 2007.
Like:
- No hats or other character modifications. (Yes, that's right)
- Only the first weapons and no pyro compression-blast.
- No update-able dispensers and teleporters.
- No killing taunts.
So is there any way to disable all of that?
I think it would be a lot of work (you'd have to basically make custom items to disable the upgrades and things I think) but if you do get it working let me know please :D
Yeah it's probably possible, but I don't see why you'd want to. It'd be ignorant to say the game isn't far better now.
I think this is a great idea, I'd like to play the 2007 version for nostalgia's sake.
I'd just like the dedicated server performance from 2007, ugh. Valve always make their servers run like ass after a few years.
And yes, that'd be possible through the use of plugins.

Now you put it like that, thank fuck for those updates.
Play on a console! If that's not a viable option, I have seen some plugins that could be used to achieve your goal (for example, there is a prophunt server that does not allow the upgrading of dispensers and teleporters). Whilst I couldn't stand why you would want to play the 'vanilla' game, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

It's called nostalgia.

Final Destination!
Do you have an Xbox 360 or PS3? I'd try that version.
Final Destination!
no items!
fox only!
final destination!
Would you want to reverse all those wonderful bug fixes?
Thanks for the replies y'all.
I'm not going to play on a 360 or PS3, I don't have any console. And I would hate it anyways.
I'll look for some plugins, also look into prophunt. See where I get from there.

No... Just want to disable the list in the first post.
It's called vanilla server.
my clan used to own one
I can do it, but not sure if I can disable airblasting/kill taunts/upgradeable buildings.
I'll try and when I do everything I can do I'll upload the files(you don't need plugins)

That would be awesome, thanks a lot! :)
I dunno, the first night I got my copy of TF2 for SFM I played around with a bunch of people. Got dull in a bit.
It's called nostalgia.
I really wouldn't feel nostalgic for it myself tbh. The only thing that'd make me feel nostalgic would be getting lost on gravelpit. That map was damn confusing for me during the beta.
Ok after toying with the files I know 2 ways to disable unlocks:
1-Use the whitelist (won't work without tournament mode)
2-Use the itemlist.txt (work with in-game servers -the ones created with "map *mapname*" command- not sure if it can work at real servers because I don't understand how they work).
How to disable airblast:
there is a mod let you control the ammo costs, increase the AB cost to 201 or more.
anyway here is the itemslist.txt:
what it does:
-disable all the unlockables and unique items
bugs:
The wrench model show instead of the toolbox model for unknown reason(won't affect the gameplay)
http://www.mediafire.com/?omh7rx0trbjs101
download the file then extract the txt file in this folder:
team fortress 2\tf\scripts\items.
I know, useless :(
edit:delete/rename the txt if you want to join anyserver
no pyro compression-blast.
I do not approve of this. Everything else I can do with, just not this. It is the only reason Pyro is such a useful class.

You ruined the joke.

Awesome thanks!
Cool. I've always wondered what TF2 would be like without any items.

You could always buy The Orange Box for PS3/Xbox. The TF2 on it hasn't had a single update.

:geno:
Isn't that exactly what you're asking? The console version of TF2 IS EXACTLY what you're asking for. Take it, or leave it.

Look again,
see that civilian stance?
There you go.
Oh you guys remember when spies were unable to manipulate what weapon their disguise is holding? When there was no such cool thing as dead ringer? When disguised spies always had half-hp shown as disguise-hp?

I still don't know how to do that as Spy. Where do I enable it/what key do I have to press?
