Hi all,
We've decided to kick of 2015 with a HUGE TF2 modding contest!

Although funded and hosted by GameBanana, this contest is open to the entire TF2 community, and to my knowledge this is the largest TF2 modding competition ever!
We hope that its going to generate a ton of awesome, unique content for the community and would love to see as many of you as possible enter!
[B][U]The task[/U][/B]
Entrants have 3 months (until Midnight UTC on Friday the 10th of April 2015) to come up with a 'weather' themed skin, or set of skins for TF2!
[B][U]Prizes[/U][/B]
There are over $1,500 worth of prizes up for grabs in our largest ever 3D art contest!
1st Place: $1,000 Cash, plus 1 Year Sketchfab PRO!
2nd Place: $250 Cash, plus 6 months Sketchfab PRO!
3rd Place: $100 Cash, plus 3 months Sketchfab PRO!
Plus, everyone who submits will also get a bonus prize from us!
[B][U]Judging[/U][/B]
Each submission will be judged by our team of experts (to be announced soon) and given marks out of 100 based on the following 4 key areas.
Quality of the model(s). [25 marks]
Quality of the texture(s). [25 marks]
Quality of the Sound(s) / Animation(s). [25 marks]
Overall concept - How well it keeps with the 'weather' theme and TF2's art style. [25 marks]

The actual theme seems vague though. So anything applies, from models to reskins? Or is it looking for fully custom content?
I am trying to see what kind of 'Modding' this is and It is very 'Vague'. My Best guess is Weapons and Hats, But it could also imply 'Unusual Effects', 'Reskinned Maps with new models and textures' and everything else?
Just want some Clarity to all this.
Oh god, hopefully this doesn't turn into Bad Banana v3. I do want me $1000 though.
I'm not gonna enter the contest, though I can't wait to see the entries and those who win.

Yup, you can enter with any type of TF2 skin, whether its a brand new player model, weapon, hat, cosmetic item, etc.. or just a re-texture of an existing item.
(Though if you want to win I would highly suggest using custom models, sounds and animations -as there are marks awarded for this)
We wanted to keep the theme as open as possible to encourage the maximum number of entries, weather can apply to nearly anything!
Sunglasses for when its hot.
A big fur coat for when it snows
Snow balls to chuck at players
A gun that shoots bolts of lightning
An ice cannon / freeze gun.
There are loads of possible options, provided it is some how linked to the weather :)

A mod contest is always fun, and I hope to make something for it. But jesus fuck, "weather" is an odd theme. It's gonna take some work to think of something that isn't lazy, like a raincoat or something.
A Museum theme could have been way better.
Weather is just way too vast.

Yeah coming up with a theme is always the hardest part! Make it too specific and people don't join, make it too vague and nobody knows what to make.

Does Sound/Animation include the skinning and rig? If not, it rules out quite a lot of possibilities.

I meant, what exactly is judged in the animation category?
Is skinning and rigging judged in that category? Or are those not judged at all?
If not, it means that the submissions need to have custom animations or sounds otherwise we lose 25 marks.
The only things that have texture+model+custom animations are weapons, and [i]sometimes[/i] floating miscs. It seems rather odd to restrict people to those, that's why I'm asking if a good skinning will give marks in the animation category.

Semi-based off of a Sturmgewehr 44, or literally translated from German as "Storm Rifle". There will be 2-3 cosmetics and a melee weapon to go with it when all is said and done.

Not since you banned me ("stop causing trouble and go" as the reason) after I originally quit and started publicly revealing a lot of issues with the site and some of the people on there. [b]But hey, no hard feelings.[/b] I know I swore up and down in your direction to a certain veteran GB admin after I got banned, but that's passed now.
You probably don't see it the same way, but to me, GameBanana was just a toxic place to be on, and it got to me over time.
To get this post on topic, I wish I had modelling skills so I can enter this contest. I've got some ideas for floating weather-related "pets", but I probably can't even draw well enough to sketch them out and release them as public concepts for people to take :(

Getting drenched in someone else's bodily fluids is not so bad when you get a temporary misc with it.
I've been killing brain cells trying to think of something interesting that would fit the contest. Would a flaregun that shoots water balloons full of gasoline fit the contest? Because Summer I guess, I don't know
