Via the Steam store:
- Added beta support for Steam Controllers. Use the Steam Big Picture interface to select and configure your preferred controller mapping. Controls operate in one of four modes, automatically selected by the game as needed. You can customize the controller layout for each one independently to suit your taste, or just use the defaults. - “In-Game” operates during regular gameplay. Use the left stick to move, and the right trackpad plus gyro to look around. - “Menus” turns the right trackpad into a virtual mouse pointer for use in navigating menus (use the triggers to mouse click). - “In-Game During Popup” covers popup menus that occur during gameplay, like Spy’s Disguise Kit, Engineer’s Build PDA, and the Taunt menu. - “Spectator” is active while spectating and before respawn.
Rumor has it: - HUD modders: as a result, you've got lots of new files to play with: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking/commit/166f2339d2762db17bca634d35e7b7a22eb29030 - Size is ~35 MB
Excited to play with this. I'm pretty happy with my Steam Controller layout for TF2, but it makes playing Engineer/Spy tedious. I'll report back later with my opinions on it.
here's a picture of the class selection screen with the new hud [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/393298345498538032/39F14BAA73FDE38C000C5B15EC17B104DEA1D422/[/t]

I like how Valve went from supporting TF2 on console/controllers, then to favoring PC for years, and then going back to controllers again.
As I was getting used to my binding that I spent quite some time cramping onto the thing. TF2 uses a LOT of inputs, it's ridiculous. One huge disadvantage of my thing is that it uses right pad dpad mode when clicked, which only allows binding 1-4. Means as Engi I can't destroy buildings. Guess it's neat that they stepped up to help, but then again, it only means more tinkering and getting used to.
theres actually a scrollwheel option for the dpad where you can set it to scroll up or down when you move your finger in a clockwise/counter clockwise circle on the dpad it's pretty useful for half life 2, or just set the left and right clicks to be scroll up or down
that looks uh really placeholder
nah that's how the hud looks in all of their officially supported steam controller games
nah that's how the hud looks in all of their officially supported steam controller games
Like shit? It's awfully unfitting. Surely they could have hired a deviantartist or something to make bespoke images for TF2's implementation for like $50 and a few hours.
I enjoy the poorly cut out look of them, really shows effort.
that looks uh really placeholder
im not even surprise by this kind of disappointment anymore. ive come to expect it from valve
Tried out TF2 using the Steam Controller before. It's definitely playable, but the issue remains with aiming, which is basically an issue with all FPS on the controller. One issue I ran across was I clicked on the filter text in the server browser and couldn't do anything at that point. No KB pops up to type anything in there.

You need to push the buttons in a specific order, i.e. 4-3-1 for Medic disguise, or alternatively, 4-7.
I could probably make all of those buttons in less than 30 minutes in the tf2 art style.
did you use the gyro controls to aim? the gyro controls are pretty fuckin good for aiming
-snip wrong thread-
I could probably make all of those buttons in less than 30 minutes in the tf2 art style.
yo do it so it can be part of a HUD mod
yo someone should make an updated version of the xbox 360 hud where all the hud elements are closer to the middle [t]http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/1KnMyS-k8O8/maxresdefault.jpg[/t]
then how come 90% of huds have the health and ammo super close to the middle?
then how come 90% of huds have the health and ammo super close to the middle?
They just do.
then how come 90% of huds have the health and ammo super close to the middle?
Because I love not being able to see. Still waiting for a hud that literally has all the stuff directly in the middle, covering the crosshair
if you wanna see then just use the hud star used in his first video
Because I love not being able to see. Still waiting for a hud that literally has all the stuff directly in the middle, covering the crosshair
Dunno what you're talking about. I use Toonhud and can see plus I don't have to venture round the screen to find info.
Ew why? That only made somewhat sense because of the lower resolution on the Xbox 360. Having it closer to the middle will just block your view even further for no good reason.
I'd use that. I like this kind of HUD which is a little closer to the mid.
i can see huds that are farther from the center of the screen being useful for people with very low resolutions. but the fact of the matter is, while im sure you're very interested in scenery, huds that are closer to the center make it easier to divert your eyes away from your cursor to read the information the hud provides without missing any action. the same applies to simpler huds that are less noisy, graphically. or thats how i understand it, anyway.
My eyes can perceive the entire screen without having to look around, I don't need numbers that close to still see what my ammo and health count is at on a 1080p screen, unless for some reason the numbers are super tiny for you somehow. I guess it can be useful for people who wear glasses or something but I dunno
eh i mean with the default hud the health numbers are kinda small
Maybe I eat too much carrots to understand such plebeian ways
