Lambda Fortress - Half-Life 2/Team Fortress 2 Crossover Mod

Synopsis:
Things are not looking up for the resistance when another wave of portal storms creates a dimensional breach leading into an entirely new world. Two identical teams of mercenaries that come from this new world waste no time choosing a side in the conflict as the RED team members dedicate themselves to protecting their home world from Combine's threat while the treacherous BLU team joins the winning side by allying themselves with Combine forces.
About the mod:
Lambda Fortress is a cooperative crossover mod between Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. Play as Team Fortress 2 classes through Half-Life 2 campaign and more in this ridiculous crossover between two radically different FPS universes.
What is done so far:
- Basic co-op mechanics. Includes: Synergy-like respawn system where killed players respawn near a teammate; team loses if all players die at once; certain weapons (Gravity Gun) are shared between team members.
- NPCs are fully compatible with TF2 mechanics. Medic can heal and ubercharge them, Engineer's sentry will target enemy NPCs, Sniper can headshot them and Spy can backstab them and fool them using his cloak and disguise.
- Unlike Gordon Freeman, Team Fortress 2 characters don't have telepathic abilities so you have to use voice commands to command Rebels and Antlions. Use "Go! Go! Go!" to make them go to the targeted location and "Help!" to make them follow you.
- Relationship system. Joining BLU team will make Combine your allies and rebels your enemies.
- Half-assed level transitions. They keep certain player stats (health, ammo) but that's it. Unfortunately, proper level transitions are not possible without save/load system which doesn't work in multiplayer.
What is planned:
- Finish co-op mode. Respawn system could use some improvements, vehicles need to be replaced with spawners that spawn a vehicle for each player and some maps need to be tweaked to work better with co-op mode.
- Fix HL2 campaign. Some parts of it are still broken in multiplayer.
- Tweak difficulty. HL2 enemies are generally no match for Team Fortress 2 classes. Buff damage done by NPCs, possibly increase health as well.
- Make proper level transitions. Currently not feasible. How the heck did Synergy make save/load system work in multiplayer?
- Versus mode. Similar to Left 4 Dead Versus, RED team progresses through the story while BLU team spawns at fixed points ahead of RED team and attempts to stop them.
Help wanted:
- Mapper. Not needed until later. Make Versus versions of maps in the future.
- Artist. Design TF2 styled Gravity Gun. Possibly work on a logo later.
- Modeler. Make TF2 styled Gravity Gun model once concept art is available. Gravity Gun currently uses HL2:DM models as placeholders.
- Animator. Make character animations for Gravity Gun. This is going to be a tough task since Gravity Gun is an all-class weapon.
- File hosting. The whole clunky installation process below could be avoided if I had SVN repository of sufficient capacity to host the mod's files.

Took down the download link because releasing such a buggy build was a mistake. Link will be available once a new version is released.

I have a group of friends that regularly play through HL2 co-op. This would be a fun and unique twist to play.
I've always said HL2 needed a minigun and a sniper rifle
Please make it easier to install in the future. I've been wanting to play it for a while but I can't be assed to press that many buttons.
do you think you could put a player scale CVAR thingie? TF stuff are hilariously oversized compared to HL stuff.
I imagine ~0.75 would be perfect

lf_use_hl2_player_hull, it defaults to 1. That's only player collision hulls, though.
I'm not going to lie this is pretty damn original

It's only for WIP builds. Once the time comes for a stable release, I will post a full package.
Any chance to be able to find dropped unlock weapons throughout maps? Using the huntsman or direct hit would be an absolute blast.
Also will there be a way to crank up the difficulty? I noticed that most weapons were doing chip damage to you and you were one-shotting them. I think it would be really neat to push in a congested area with uber that would be otherwise very difficult.

HL2 has a lot of difficulty settings set by cvars. You can try playing with those, they start with sk_.

I think you should just make presets to increase the ease of use for everyone.
stuff like
Normal (as is) (1)
Hard (-50% dmg done / +50% dmg taken) (2)
Critical (+300% dmg taken) (3)

I was planning to do that either way, that was a temporary way for people to crank up the difficulty.
This is really cool! I know it's super early and you guys probably thought of this already, but it would be neat if Spy's sapper did damage to mechanical things, like the camera drones or turrets.
[editline]oh[/editline]
Also a quick question: Is there a way to allow dying? I'm just screwing around by myself and if I want to change classes right now it resets the whole thing.
Really neat, looking forward to more updates. On an off note, theoretically would it be possible to do this but with the L4D survivors? Anyways, keep up the good work.
There are like, zero servers up. Well, there's one, but it's password protected.
This has sooo much potential, best of luck to the devs!
Wow! This great. I can't wait until you've got more of this done.
Have you thought of creating a tf2 styled crossbow, because I created a half life crossbow meant for tf2 but never did anything with it. You think you'd like to use this to put in it?

Fine piece of work!
Also, if you want to host a server, type "sv_lan 0", then "heartbeat" into the dev console so other people can connect to your server.
Weird, I followed the steps but the mod doesn't appear in my library. Is TF2 required?
-snip-
OP hasn't mentioned it, you need to copy all Half-Life 2 maps from wherever you have it installed to tf_coop/maps
No, you don't, and his issue has nothing to do with maps. HL2 maps should be available if you have Half-Life 2 installed on Steam.

oh, I just assumed that judging from the Steam guide
lf_use_hl2_player_hull, it defaults to 1. That's only player collision hulls, though.
thanks for the response but that doesn't really answer accurately. Everyone still look like awkward giants. since the newer source builds support easy scale outputs I figure it might be possible to import that sort of code?
by the way, is that a TF2C build that you setup hl2 stuff on, or the opposite?
BUG
- Sometimes friendly Combine Turrets are attacking players from RED team in COOP mode (seems to happen when holded by other player).
- Players in Airboats can use mounted gun to kill other players, which causes crash for killed person.
Weird, I followed the steps but the mod doesn't appear in my library. Is TF2 required?
No TF2 is not required to play, try restarting steam, if that does not work check if you have installed the mod correctly
Has anyone started to work on the tf2 styled gravity gun, and if not, what size do you want it in reference to what tf2 weapon (like sized of shotgun, minigun, sniper, pistol, etc.)

This mod is not directly related to TF2 Classic. I'm getting tired of repeating that.

Make it like a medigun.
