I would like to make a clan about being advanced engineers but I'm not sure what makes a clan good?

I don't know anything about clans, but I suggest taking a look at already established clans and see how they do it.
Go on a eGo server.
Do the opposite.

Get your name out there a lot. Advertise a bit. Seems to work. Even though once you join you realize everyone is a dickhead to everyone else and you start to question why you joined in the first place, but then you realized it was for that kick-ass advertisement and you decide on staying.
If you want a community clan then just a sence of community, lots of friends, preferably with mics just hanging together having good time. For competitive clan you would need more.. Teamplay, individual skill, good communication and tactics.
I see because I am an advanced engineer of sorts I am not the kind that build a sentry without a dispenser or stupid crap like that.

Hey, don't diss the offensive engineer. I say you advertise on FP, advertise on servers that allow advertising, etc. Find people that play engi and hold regular games on regular servers. I think it will help hold the group together.

A clan isn't about how good your servers are or how pro your team is. Its who the people are and how they act. If you have a bunch of 12 year olds such as the ego servers then your bound to be disrespected by the community. If you have some good hearted gamers who are either looking for competition or recreation then you will be fine. get a bunch of friends on steam and talk to them about making a clan. Buy a 20 some slot from game servers. Get a small ventrilo server and a 100 meg website all from gameservers.com this will cost you around 40$ a month but its a start for things. Get a server admin to install source mod and configure it for your clan mates but make sure you out rank you on the servers. Set up a phpbb forum board and have your members sign up. Then just populate the server, create a steam group ect. Watch it flourish, if you put enough time and effort into it.
Lastly, think of a good name, make sure it isn't something u'll regret later down the road.
A clan is supposed to be a group of people who like playing together.
Clans are taken way too seriously these days.
Exactly, a clan is all about having fun, and occasionally having a friendly pug or two with another clan, what's with this "enemy" and "allied" clan business, it's just silly.
A good clan is a clan that knows that it is a joke and that nobody takes them seriously.

You need people are good at certain classes but can play all classes well. If you're all going to be engineers then you'll probably be defending more then attacking

Don't let just anybody in, you need to know your members won't screw around and then you'll be safe in the knowledge that your clan won't collapse right away.
Play great servers, look for people with MiC's, mature people like Crude for example, they make awesome clan mates, I've already got an Advanced Engineer one up ( Called HODOWN ) We've reaches the 20 member mark, 4 more and we're closing all recruiting, you'll want to find serious yet fun people, advertising doesn't really matter as long as you make people suffer using engineer tactics.
Find some mature 18+ clan/club/etc. of people who play together then.
